I didn't get to add this to the discussion last night, because I had to run off home (was at work), but I wanted to say that I appreciated the reminder to be careful about what you post. We forget that anyone can "eavesdrop" on our posts.
Also, internet stalking does happen; it happened to a colleague of mine and it took a police investigation to stop it.
Personally, years ago I was the victim of repeated bothersome phone calls that became progressively more alarming -- not something I could laugh off. Again, it took the involvement of authorities to stop it. It turned out to be someone who knew who I was and where I lived and worked (in fact, he was a neighbour).
Of course, it is everyone's choice what to post, but the reminder was a good one for some who may not be aware that things like this do happen.

is Lynda. Just do a search using Lynda and the posts will show up.
How do you check how many views a thread has had? and Lynda Reeves handle?
THe PJ thread has 2086 views, we're clearly not alone!
No we are never alone considering one of Lynda's posts has 7,872 views.
Paris, you'll do LOL :D
Thanks
it's a colon and then a capital D :D
How do you make the smiley with the big toothy grin!?
Pardon my ignorance, but where do you see this? I have only tried searching once, chat twice and getting better at smiley faces :D :D So where do you see the number of viewers? It must mean the number on clicks on a thread? I am probably good for 100 or so over the last couple of days, just checkin' (sore knee, hee hee) If each member clicked every time they wanted to read or check for new posts...that could add up. Am I out to lunch here? :)
THe PJ thread has 2086 views, we're clearly not alone!
I want you to know that I am not a liar. I am the kid's next door imaginary friend!!!;)
You are a poet! Thank you for that lyrical, thoughtful opinion.
we all just need to keep all things said in mind when posting any threads...and to keep others in mind when posting certain threads tooo. what i might not find offensive or inappropriate...may be for others....aslong as we keep all this in mind i think we'll all get along...won't step on anyones toes...and keep having fun here sharing ideas and enjoying each others company...i think this has maybe gotten a il out of control now...we need to get back to the fun of decorating and designing our houses to make them homes
that even tho' we think we know each other by now, it could be that we are all just good liars ;)...forget about the darker shadows of the internet...the portraits that we create of each other are strictly born in our imagination. We are simply fragments of figments. :D This world is of our own creation and a good place to escape to now and then. Let us leave the ugliness of real life out of it but appreciate the concern shown here. :)
I didn't want to offend anyone and wasn't commenting about whether a post was appropriate....just seconding the reminder that unpleasant things do happen. Luv2's post triggered some unpleasant memories for me.
I know that most people's inclination is to share and to be open....all in a light-hearted spirit, and that's great! But such things as voyeurs and stalkers do exist, on the Internet as elsewhere. I was not judging those who posted.
I was not defending the thread...as u might notice, I didnt reply to it myself...BUT...again I state, if you don't like a particular thread, pass it by. As far as it being inappropriate, I am sure if it were, Jody or Jason would have deleted it. All it takes is a little common sense. As a matter of fact, I do know where you are coming from about stalking, but I am not paranoid either.
and I have posted a similar response(currently 5th from the bottom) of the thread in question. My prev post here was only intended as a possible explanation as to the nature of the question- not in defense of it.
What if you were asked your bra size? What your husband wears to bed? How often you have sex? I agree with woodburn, that we have become so comfortable with one another, that we sometimes act like this is a "gab" session amoung friends - but how would you like some strangers pulling up a chair and listening to your gab session? I bet that the presence of strangers would put a chill on the conversation. Luv2shop is here reminding us all that there might be untold numbers of "strangers" eavesdropping on every post, some with sordid motives. I appreciate what Luv2shop has said.
it was intended as one of those OT discussions that often become hilarious over the course of a day. For example, "what is under your stairs" or " are you living with a teenager" I don't think there was any particular reason for it....except that the forum has slowed somewhat and I think it was just started in light-hearted fun. I am sure there have been many topics touched on in the past that could be misinterpreted ...and my advice is to just pass them by :D
It's not just that thread I was referring to. Schools where members send their children, pics of the front of your home which can be identifying, etc. - this kind of information should be shared carefully.
As for Foxxy's unusual curiousity, I could not speak for her and why she asked, but I know I and obviously other members are troubled about stating the sleeping attire we choose in a public forum that can be and is read by hundreds or perhaps thousands of unknown people. If you have ever had issue with invasion of privacy, you would understand my warning. It was just a reminder about publishing personal information, and I totally stand by my opinon.
Have I missed something? I find foxxy a crazy funny curious gal...just like the rest of us!
thanks for filling me in...i appreciate it...it's puts me at ease...i too will not post pics of the outside of my cuz i am in a small town as well and on a major highway...it would be very identifying...but if you feel comfortable posting pics of your rooms well then so do i...i also thought it was odd to post a thread about what we all prefer to wear to bed at nite...i personally don't really care what you ladies wear to bed at nite...i'm more interested in what ideas you guys have...what amazed me what the amount of responses that the bedtime attire recieved...maybe it's just me but i thought that it was very strange...and correct me if i'm wrong...i believe it was ''Foxxy'' that started the thread...that one kinda struck me as odd too...don't you think?
Nobody has had a specific problem here with stalking - that I know of. I obviously can't speak for everyone. What I was referring to in my original post is to remember that there are many more people on the forum than we see when we look at "Who's On-line". At one point you could see the hundreds of "guests" - non-members - that were on reading at any one time. Sometimes we forget and think it's just us. Well, it's the internet and you never know.
I would not post a pic of my home from the front as in my small community it would be very identifying. Others are not as concerned about this. I also would not discuss what I wear in bed in a public forum. These are my on choices. I'm just trying to make the point that you never know. I don't worry about posting pics of my rooms, furniture, etc. I'm not trying to scare anyone. It's just something to be aware of. :)
i have only been on the forums for about 2 weeks now ...and i am totally addicted...but i was wondering if anyone could fill me in a lil more on what has happened here in the past...i'm starting to worry...especially with so many of us sharing pics of our homes...i'm wondering if i should stop posting pics and just describe the rooms i need help with as best i can without pics now
As happy as I am to see people posting OT stuff in FFA, I just think we all need to remember to be safe. I too had a problem with persistent calls years ago, and the internet is the same. Thanks for speaking up! :)
