Well, tomorrow we're having a builder (my DH does some work for him sometimes) come over to do a design for our kitchen.........we want to change things around and hopefully my DH and I can come to a solid agreement  about some things.
I would like the old tiles removed and have new ones put in..........I know it's a big job because that means we have to change the flooring in the kitchen, eating area, hall, powder room and laundry room and it also means new baseboards replacing not so old ones which we put in when we changed the whole area to ceramic tiles.............DH is not too keen about the whole thing even though he won't be doing the tiling job, but the baseboards will be his thing to do.
If we do come to an agreement about changing the tiles, I would want something that will last me a very long time and not being out of fashion in a short time......suggestions are welcome..............
We intend to get a gas stove to replace our electric one and a new fridge with double doors and a bottom freezer.....I'm thinking stainless steel, but then that means I have to change my dishwasher which is a Maytag and not too old...........wonder what DH will say about changing that to stainless steel
My kitchen presently looks like heck.........new window was put in and DH had removed some the backsplash tiles around the window and the window was never finished on the inside because of the kitchen reno in the future.....the cabinets had been painted blue because I hated the orangy coloured wood we used to have and now the paint is chipping away around some of the handles.
I have mixed feelings about this kitchen........not looking forward to the mess and also convincing my DH about some of the changes I would like to see in that kitchen......keep your fingers crossed for me and hope things will work out smoothly :D
I'll keep you informed about any new developments...........remember my bathroom reno took about 6 months....only God knows how long this kitchen reno will take........

Sounds like things are starting to roll. Boy 5' of pantry wall would be so nice.
Well the builder was here and the first thing that came out of his mouth was, "why do you want to change these cabinets?" ( I think my DH had been secretly talking to him that I want to change the kitchen cabinets  )......anyway, he did a measuring and drawing of what we want for our kitchen and he'll be working on it to present to us for any changes we might want to do.
Since we will be getting rid of our island and have a moveable one, we will be changing the floor tiles of the kitchen are only which will be ok.....The kitchen and eating area floor tiles will be separated by a slab of marble and nothing will be noticeable of the change from the hall area. At least we have come to that agreement.........I know the whole floor tiling change was not really going down well with me because of all the dust and mess and cost, so at least doing this way will please everyone.
We will be looking at gas stoves and fridges because we need to know the measurements before the final drawing is made. We are moving our fridge around and in that area we will be building a pantry instead, which is much needed. So far we're thinking of doing a whole wall of pantry, which is about 5 feet in length, but that might change after we look at the drawing.
wow you've got some big ideas going on....good luck with your builder today....keep us updated...it's so exciting
Just in case you might want an undermount sink, I just found out about this today http://www.counter-seal.com/
It's a way to have an undermount sink without having a solid surface countertop.
Dishwasher if there isn't a kit to replace the front panel with Stainless my BIL went to a sheet metal shop and had one made for his Dishwasher and then just glued it on and it looks like it was always Stianless.
im really happy for you....big job but i bet it will be just beautiful when its all done. :clapping:

janetc
oooh big job ahead.
re: the dishwasher, can you get a stainless panel for the door or a new stainless door? If it isn't that old there may be a kit for it available at good appliance places.
I did a complete kitchen redo many years ago and it is certainly a disruption but worth it in the long run. It sounds like you have definite ideas of what you're looking for, so hopefully you and hubby can agree!! Good luck - would love to see some pictures if you have any.
