Hi everyone,
as promised please find attached pics of my new condo. I picked out all of the paint colours, furniture and fabrics myself for the couch, etc. I think that I could use a hint of colour somewhere and something to put on the long wall underneath the three prints but I am not sure what. Does it look okay? Opinions are welcome and needed.
Thanks.
Nixx

Hi Everyone,
Okay so I have made some changes and I want some opinions on some of the additions I'd like to add to my space. I can't explain it perfectly so I will try to describe what I am thinking. Where the current tv cabinet is (dark brown) and flat screen tv is on that wall I wanted to put a stone wall. I will post of pic of it below. I also would like to then put a fireplace (gas) in front of it and then put the tv up on the mantel with a few decorative vases or art. I was thinking by getting rid of the tv cabinet I can store all the tv stuff behind the fireplace....it comes with a storage space or by a tall skinny cabinet to go beside the fireplace. I think by adding the stone wall it will also warm up the space and play off nicely with the new leather sofa. Please note the cushions on the sofa in the pic are now gone. I have found bigger nicer cushions to go with it. They are a light beighish dupioni silk with a nice pattern. I got them from Homesense and I still need to get new curtains. There is also a bookcase in the corner left of the window.
Thanks for the feedback. Do you think I should go with the stone wall and fireplace or just the fireplace.

The decor is fabuloua
thanks Arizona...I'll see if I can look up the baby turtle to see what that looks like. I'm usually drawn to colours that are in the warmer palette but I'll take a look to see what that might look like as an accessory.
cheers,
Nixx
I would look at a few of the new greens that are available now. Not an old fashioned mint green but a more moderner green. Someone posted photos of Baby Turtle which I would really like as an accent in your living room. But after saying that, find the rug first. You could check out the Persian style as those are multi coloured and then you can draw from several colour options to change things up once in a while.
Hi Nixx,
I think changing your rug could really make a difference for you - particularly if you get one with colour/pattern. I like your space but feel that it's missing colour - something that pulls on the brown of the sofa, the colour (tan-ish?) on the walls and the taupe of your ottoman... and than adds a few other warm colours (like deep red, blue and/or dijon yellow) to tie everything together.
A suggestion... get the rug first, before you choose any accent colour(s) and pillows... I'm thinking that you can pull your accent colour from the rug.
Another suggestion... get a rug that is larger then the one you currently have... large enough to go under the front feet of your main furniture pieces (sofa and TV stand [I think that's what's across from the sofa?])
Also... I haven't seen pics of your kitchen, but the idea of painting out your cabinets in a dark colour sounds great!
All the best,
Vickie
Hi Jeep thank you for the suggestion. I've been looking at the whole space and I'm still not loving it. So I've decided that instead of repainting the whole entire home I'm going to keep it as is because I do really like the wall colour.
So my next plan of action is to figure out what accent colour I'd like to use in the space and purchase some bigger cushions for the sofa. Still looking for suggestions if anyone has them for the accent colour I should consider. I'm also thinking of re-doing the kitchen cupboards to a dark espresso brown so it will tie in with the living room and dining room section of the home. I think this may help balance the space too so the leather sofa won't look so heavy in the room now...ard I've also heard that dark colours can help make the walls recede so if I do that in the kitchen area ...I'm thinking it will make the kitchen area feel more spacious and it will work better with the rest of the space.
I was also thinking of changing the rug on the living room floor because I think it may be too light for the space now.
I'm also planning to redo my bedroom. I'm still thinking of a nice smoky gray and brown for the bedroom.
Nixx
Maybe before committing to a new wall color try new cushions in that color to see how they go with the sofa. I like the sofa but i think it is to dark and heavy in your space. It is over powering that side of the room with all the other neutrals so maybe more color othr places would balance it out more.
Any suggestions for an accessory colour? I was thinking red ie/ Cayenne pepper sort of red but I'm getting a little tired of that colour. I want something warm but bright to uplift the room.
Suggestions welcome.
Nic
I think a smokey gray will look good but I don't think it's worth the trouble of repainting with another neutral. I'm not sure what you would gain by doing that. I think what everyone means by adding colour is by incorporating some colour with accessories.
What does everyone think about me changing the paint colour on the walls? Do you think a smoky gray would look nice? if so does anyone have a nice grey paint colour suggestion?
thanks,
Nixx
Nix, this is my honest opinion....i love your new sofa!....i think you are just in the same boat as me, your room needs some color.....if you ever decide to paint i think your walls would look great in a green.......but just start with a bit of color through accessories.

Hi Nixx; I also like your new sofa,Ithink it is very classy .What I think your room needs is a punch of colour and different window treatments. How do you think a deep cranberry red would look as an accent colour in cushions a throw maybe a large red bowl on the coffee table.
I have posted a picture of my DD livingroom drapes (the before and after )(she made them)everything was from fabricland.I think this kind of window treatment would look very good on your high windows.I think these couple of ideas would make a difference ,other than this I think your room is lovely. :)
Nixx I love the new sofa, but I see what you mean not loving it in the room.
It is so very differnt than the loeseat, but you will get used to the new sofa.
The two pieces are so completely different in style, Im sure thats what you are
having a tough time with. But give yourself a week and Im sure you will love it.
Personally I think it goes much better in the room than your LS.
The mirror goes so nicely with it.
I love the two together.
Here is a thought, what about a more creamy sheer?
The white now looks a little stark. Hope you don't mind me saying so.
also love the coffee table and the candles on it.
All for now.
Flowerpot. :D
Oh no. If it makes you feel any better I think it looks fine. It may take a while to get used to how much bigger it is than the old one and how much darker it is but it looks fine in the room. I would hate to think of you repainting everything just because of a sofa. I have to say I don't like those cushions you have on the sofa. I don't like the colours or how flat they look. It would look better without cushions, maybe a throw instead?
Hi Everyone,
So the new sofa is finally here and I love it. It feels great and everything but I HATE it in the room. Is it just me or is something wrong with it? I know it is hard to tell from a picture but I feel like it doesn't stand out the living room just feels like a regular old living room now. I liked my beige love seat better in terms of how it looks in the room. To see that you'll have to scroll to the beginnng of this thread. I need some honest feedback.
Do I need to consider a different accent colour or for cushions? or the walls?
I am really considering re-painting the whole house and i wondered if anyone has any paint colour suggestions. Because now that i have the new sofa in the home it makes the wall colours look sort of muddy.
The sofa is an espresso/coffee bean colour.
Look forward to lots of feedback and criticism. I need suggestions for a paint wall colour that will tie everything together. Its now more of an issue because of the floor colour too.
thanks,
Nixx
Thanks for the advice. I love good constructive criticism, Which pics are you speaking about? The black and white pics? Do you have any suggestions? Should I go with bigger frames? I love black and whites. I agree the cabinets don't work at all but I'm not sure what I can do about it. I didn't really want to invest money in changing the cabinets. I was thinking of making one of the cabinets glass to open up that area a bit but still not sure. Do you think if it was a dark wood it would work?
We just got our new couch...I like it but don't love it like I did in the store. I feel like it makes the room not feel dynamic anymore.
I'll take pics and send as soon as I can.
Nixx
looks nice
the only thing that bothers me are the pictures - they don't have enough weight and look kinda lost and the cabinets and wall colour don't go to well together which would bug me but its a good job
edit: d'oh i mean the pics in the living area
Hi Sherry,
Thank you for the post. I had a great time decorating and when I can get some more funds together :) I will focus on fixing up my bedroom.
The dining table I got from The Home Company. and the Tables are from there as well.
The Dining Table was $199.99 and the chairs were $99.00 each. I bought the set at Sherway Gardens. I think a huge reason for the low cost is because they don't carry a lot of the dining sets. But you could call them and find out what other locations have them. It is great for a small living space such as a condo.

www.stuctube.com --they have nice furniture too.
Cheers,
Nicole
Wow, you have done a awesome job decorating your condo. It is gorgeous and completely my style! as well !!
I have been looking for a dark brown dinette set such as yours for quite awhile without much luck. May I ask where you purchased it and the price range?
I too live in condo - a bit smaller than your- and finds space is at a premium!!
Thanks and I can't wait to see what you do with your bedroom.
Sherry
I really want to add a touch of colour in the living room. I may get some coloured cushions...we'll see how I feel once I get to the mall. Caban has some great stuff. I love shopping there.
Nixx
That is one of those shoji screen that our cats ruined on the bottom so we decided to put behind the tv to hide the damage. I know what you mean with the backsplash, so we decided to not get it installed so we can paint it whenever we want...
Angenusso what is that above your tv??? I love the way it looks. I am still figuring out what the hell to put above my tv and I was going to put a shelf...still not sure though. Ahhhh man now I think I have to run out to IKEA and definitely pick up something I can't stop the urge. I think I'm going to look for thicker curtains for my bedroom and a desk today. I need to stop spending money ahhaha.

Gosh where the hell have I been with all of this great conversation going on!!! Hahahah love the pics you posted of your place Agennuso. I love living in Essex. All of my friends that have been here so far...feel like they're in a hotel when they walk in the building and they love my suite too. I was the same way I was drawing up furniture layouts, picking out paint colours and fabrics for the sofas and woods etc. I was sooo excited and still am.
Condogirl you are better than me. I still haven't made it down to the pool of gym. But I plan on visiting the gym more often in the new year.hahahah.
I have decided that in 2006 i am going to save up to change the backsplash and countertops in the kitchen. Probably to limestone and then clear and cream glass broken style backsplash.
Agennuso this location is fab. The subway, GO Train and highway is all within close proximity. I hope they do more to the overall neighborhood too...it would be great if they could continue the Bloor west village further down towards where we are!
My balcony is regular size...I wish I had a bigger patio space...but I plan on getting two cute chairs and a table when the warm weather rolls around.
Nixx
Quite a few ppl have them I can see them on there patios! So I dont see why I cant have one. I just moved in so I will be getting one next summer.
You're allowed BBQs?
I think ours might be about 12 x 12ish.. Big enough for a BBQ and table and chairs.. more than enough for me! I know waiting is the worst! I am the least patient person on the face of the earth!
Yeah it keeps our mind off the fact that it will be 16 months before we are in the condo...hopefully we will have the same furniture by that time - lol. Kinda hard cause Tridel has made us pick our finishes already (oh what fun when are picky and want to customize everything) but we got though it with minimal cost...fingers crossed that everything is still available when they get to finishing our unit.
Wow one down from the top...geez, that would be a great view...i'm jealous...our terrace is about 10'x20' so it will be nice to have an outdoor "room" (about the same size as living / dining room. The is only another terrace to the left so it will be nice be totally open to the right...
WOW thats amazing! I did the same thing not in such detail but I did do a floor plan before starting to buy stuff for the condo! I have a pretty big paito, not as big as yours I am sure but be cause we are a corner unit we got a bigger one than most of the other condos. We do have the most amazing veiw! We are on the north east corner of the building one down from the top!
You must get a hell of a view.
Unfortunately, we are going to overlooking the water pumping station but i think we are just above it but it should be ok...we really wanted the large terrace so i guess that is the trade off. It should be fun...we have already painstakingly designed a overhead layout of where all our furniture will go including a head on layout of the living room, dining room and kitchen which i have attached. We don't want any surprises when we get in there.
I am in 2 and on floor 24 Nixx is in 1 and on floor 18!
What floor are you on? You in Essex 1 or 2?
