Finally ...pics of my new decorated condo

Nixx22's picture

Hi everyone,

as promised please find attached pics of my new condo. I picked out all of the paint colours, furniture and fabrics myself for the couch, etc. I think that I could use a hint of colour somewhere and something to put on the long wall underneath the three prints but I am not sure what. Does it look okay? Opinions are welcome and needed.

Thanks.

Wow small world! You will love it here. I just came back up to my suite after using the pool and hot tub what a nice way to spend a night. I think we are going to have to form an Essex coffee club.

What floor are you on, how many bedrooms?

We will be on the 1st residential floor (2nd floor) with a terrace. Its a 1 bedroom + den. For now we live in an apartment as seen here: http://homepage.mac.com/design_intervention/PhotoAlbum5.html

Thanks for the feedback Zulu. I have decided to leave the tv where it is. Since I got a gift card from Ikea I'm going to pick up a nice glass shelf if I can and install it above the tv. That way i have rest a nice piece of artwork on it and possibly some pics of my friends and I and a few nice vases etc.

I don't want it to look too cluttered though.

I am looking for a nice headboard/bed. does anyone have any suggestions. The shoji screen was and is only temporary and i am actually sick of looking at it now. I'd like something in a dark wood. I'm also tempted to lose the red colour block I did and try a different colour like a greyish blue. I'm just not sure how it would go with the rest of the house...so I'm thinking of getting a new head board first to see how I feel before I make anymore changes.

Thanks for the suggestions and feed back.

Love all your rooms in the condo. You have done an amazing job. I like your shoji headboard. Different looking and very nice. I think I would like a nice piece of art on that wall above the TV. I don't think I would hang it on the wall for two reasons.
1) If you hang it flat on wall, you can never move the direction, for instance maybe while in kitchen or eating you might want to watch something once in a while.
2) If you don't hang it flat and use an arm thingy, well I just think they don't look so nice for a LR, they look like your local Pub.
3) I know I said two but just thought of something. My brother has one in his LR on wall, It is too high and I get a crink in my neck after watching for awhile.
Keep up the good work.

I know they are absolutely gorgeous. It would be great in my bedroom. I have spent way too much money in the past two weeks so I have to cross my fingers that santa is good to me this year ;)

When I get new curtains I'll post a pic.

Ikea sells really long curtains. I bought a set of panels for about $60 that are something like 118" long. They're cotton, so they're not as nice as silk curtains. But they might be worth checking out.

We just got a flat screen too! We have it on a low bench thingy from Ikea, we were goign to put it on a wall, but the only wal we could put it on has the heating unit on it... BLAH  So for right now, we have not hung it up. I havent put antthing above mine, I think its the focal point of that wall so I dont want to disctact from it. What size is yours? Can you take a pic of it and post it to give a better idea of the amount of space that you have above it?

Nixx22's picture

wow 12ft ceilings AMAZING but Ouch sounds like you will have to get your drapes made. What colour are you going to paint the rest of your house?

I need help...I don't know what to put up over my tv. I have a flat screen which Iw as going to mount but the wall still looks slightly bare.

Nixx, I have grante counters and totaly love them! My ceilings might be a bit higher than yours I looked a suite almost the exact same as yours, and the ceilings were lower there than in the one I ended up with. I havent found any drapes that are ready made that are long enough yet. I want them to puddle on the floor, and the ones I am finding would sit just a little above the floor.

Both Condogirl and I have 9ft ceilings. We both live in The Tridel buildings but I'm in Essex 1 and she is in Essex 2. Such a small world. Anyways Condogirl they are carrying longer length drapes now I've noticed. But I think Smoodgie picked a great set of drapes to show me. I think that would really make my room look stunning. So I am going to see if I can get fabrics that have a silkish look to it like a raw silk look and that are heavier and carry the two colours that are in my room in it ...BUT sew them myself.

I can't wait to get the right curtains up. Now I think I want to do more to my kitchen but I don't know what. I think I would like to change the backplash and i know that next year 2006 I plan to change the countertops to limestone or granite.

Nixx I love the drapes that were posted! I have found having such high ceilings that i am going to have to make drapes instead of buying them as well.

Hey Paul and Smoodgie thank you both for the feedback. PaulD you've got a good point and I was actually thinking about how I would stop and finish the fake rock wall if I were to do it. So I may have to nix that idea but I still think it looks pretty cool. I am so loving this lightish blue/grey colour. ...it is so soothing but I feel like I probably can't use that colour in my space cause it will take away from the colours in my br and den. Everytime I was home To Go or home to stay or any of those shows for that matter I want to make a major change :) but I have noticed that I am drawn to warm colours like the browns and reds and oranges.
SMOODGIE those curtains you sent the pic for look amazing. I have a sewing machine and I can sew so I think I can probably make curtains very similar to that if I don't find them around. I think I need to eventually change my curtains in my lr too.

Thanks,

Nixx

Hi Nixx

the tv is to the left of the balcony window/door in that picture, correct? (bit small on my monitor)

personally I wouldn't do a fake stone/brick finish there, because you then have to deal with that outside corner, and where to start/stop that finish... doing it only on that short wall and not on the adjoining hallway wall screams fake (to me anyway)...

I do like that finish in some cases (did see a bit of it on Peter's show recently), but I find it works better on the long/exterior wall of a condo/apt/townhouse/house, because you can always pretend it's an un-drywalled structural wall (creative license required in a new building but you know what I mean ;) ) and you can easily stop at inside corners - it's come a long way since the "Z-brick" of the 60s/70s ;)

Ooooh, I love your red colour bloclk!! Very nice!! :)

I really like the shoji screen as a headboard. I would keep it :) And I think your prints would look great hanging in the colour block.

These curtains are probably not the right shade to go with your colour block, but you could probably either make your own or buy pre-made ones in a red that works, and then sew on a band in a contrasting colour along the bottom. These ones are from Restoration Hardware.

hi janetc....thanks for looking and posting. I know ...i need to give condogirl a little push :) Hopefully I have inspired her to get her painting and decorating started. I think she is still firming up what colours she wants to go with.

I am now thinking that in my living room I should do something over the tv. I have seen these great rock walls and was wondering if I should do that on the one wall just to add a bit of texture and dimension to the room.

The only thing I think that sucks about decorating is that when you watch these design shows and you see something that you like you automatically want to change it up and do something new.

I got the bedding at IKEA. they also have the bedding in a burnt reddish colour...same colour as the colour block. I think the bedding was $79. for the duvet cover and two pillow shams. It feels really nice to the touch too.

I wondered if someone can tell me if I should change the headboard...I have the shoji screen temporarily now...but I'm not sure if I should just keep it. I also need to think of what I should put above the tv in my living room. I was going to mount it to the wall but the wall would still feel bare...any suggestions? They are greatly welcomed.

I saw home to stay and they did this great faux rock wall/brick wall looking thing...I wonder if I should do that to the tv wall in LR or if I should put up a piece of artwork instear :S
