fireplace and other room tips?

Please help!  What should I do with my fireplace (and any other room tips)?  It feels like it needs something big on it but I'm not sure of what.

Any other tips for finishing this room is appreciated too.  I know I need curtains, and I'm looking forward to replacing the sand colored dog couch with a couple of chairs or a new dog-free loveseat.

A lovely room...great fireplace.I think once you add window treatments that will make a huge difference.....end tables and lamps beside the sofa or once you get your occassional chairs a table with a lamp between them will ground the room....A hugh floor vase with tall dark twigs beside the fireplace would look good.I agree with a large mirror on the fireplace mantel would look great.

I love the room...but I think you need to have some curtains to compliment your shutters in the window.  I think that will add depth to the room.  I would also get a nice area rug that might draw in some of the colours you have in the room and a nice big mirror leaning on the fireplace mantel will also expand the space.  If you dont want to use a mirror you can lean a nice piece of art on the mantel or do a mirror and a picture. I love the layered look.  I would also throw a few more cushions on your couches with a touch of colour just to add some more depth and intrigue to the room.

Good luck and keep us posted with pics :)

Wow! How lucky to have such big windows and a fireplace! Agreed, the stone fireplace is lovely but a large mirror above the mantel might make it look a bit more current and reduce the dominance of the stone. Your white couch looks nice -- could pair a couple of sweep arm chairs opposite? I just bought two from West Elm that I love http://www.westelm.com/products/sweep-arm-leather-chair-g177/

A large area rug might define that seating area, and then it looks like you have room for another small seating or console/desk area behind the beige couch?
