flies on exterior walls and windows????

Ok this is gross, but I have quite a few flies on my outside walls and windows. I know it's normal to see the odd fly outside, but it's looking like there is more to it. I'm thinking it could be from the packaged Black Earth I bought several bags of, and it's all in the garden now. But somehow I can't help but wonder if there is something DEAD out there. I'm not looking forward to finding that, if I'm right. I already had a bird head left on my lawn, thanks to crows that picked that up in the park. (the other part was found by kids at school-my son was only to happy to tell me about that-big news when you are 8!)

I can't help but wonder if it's to do with the squirrels nesting in the neighbour's chimney. A litter seems to have been born since I warned the people that moved in about a year ago, so I'm wondering if maybe one didn't make it.

Yucky stuff. Any other ideas? The flies are normal-sized housefly type. (or at least that's what they look like to me) They seem to be on the windows and side of my house nearest the neighbour's chimney.

I think it must be that black earth too. I was out weeding yesterday and there were actually flies meandering in the soil next to where I was pulling weeds.

Ick! I might have to try soapand water too.

I think they're coming from your black earth. I had the same problem after i added topsoil to my flower beds in the spring. After about a month my yard was infested with flies! My neighbours were asking if I knew where they were coming from. I sprayed with some soap and water about every month since the spring and it seems to be working. I use an old liquid fertilizer bottle attached to the hose. Hope this helps!

Could be! I never heard of them before. Thank you for the link.

It's good to know they are not likely to be connected to anything dead. It's still a little creepy thoough. Today there were 3 of them on the outside of my kitchen window, and it reminds me of that scene in Amityville Horror !

could they be cluster flies? here is one site http://www.deerwood.mb.ca/pesticide/fly/page02.html

but there are others if you google 'cluster flies'. apparently the one give away is that you will find clusters of them on walls and such while other flies are usually solo. BTw they don't come from or with dead animals. It's the earthworms they like.
