floating console

In a House and Home issue a couple of years back , there was an article that had a picture of a beautiful walnut floating console, credited to D.S. Interiors. I would love to have one built similar to this, but cannot find any further information on the console or the company. Anyone have any information for me?? The picture is too dark for me to make out any details. Thanks so much, everyone

Yes, thanks for the input! I have contacted a furniture maker and he and I are planning one now.

I'm not sure if this is what you saw, but a few years ago, one of the DIY decorating shows (HGTV) featured a floating console made from a set of
3 or 4 upper kitchen cupbosards.

If memory serves, a couple of 2x4's, the length of the cabinets were nailed to the wall, about 22" apart. The cabinets were finished as desired (stained or painted, new hardware, etc) and hung on the cross pieces. The top of the cabinets had been sanded and finished the same as the rest.

Four small round 'legs' were glued to a heavy piece of glass (sanded or bevelled), then glued to the top of the cabinet. It was mentioned that a large mirror could be used in place of the glass and marbles or large, round beads could be used instead of the finished, wooden 'legs' already noted.

Voila! A floating cabinet that suits your purpose and looks exactly the way you wanted it, since you finished it.

note: the upper cupboards were used instead of the lower type because of the depth...upper being somewhat shallower.

Hope that helps,

K

Your best bet would be to find a very good cabinet maker. This is cabinet mounted to the wall, yes? Sorry, just not familiar with the term floating console.
