I just finished our new home office. We purchased a beautiful desk and decided to put a couple of Ikea floating shelves abouve one side. They look great but I need some help on what to put on them to make it look nice. currently I have put on books, picutres, and a couple of candles but it isn't doing it for me any suggestions?

Sonia,

Have a look at the office below where I used floating shelves from IKEA.

Hope it can give you some ideas...

Hi, try a small plant with leaves spilling over the side. Also any family photos. Find something very unique and whimsical, an odd looking candle holder, book end etc.

Hope these ideas have helped.

Maybe you just need to mix up the scale of things on the shelf. A few suggestions:
- Lean a larger piece of art on the shelf against the wall on the top shelf. On the other shelf, group some family photos in various sized frames.
- Group 3 vases together. They should have a common element eg. shape - all cylindrical, or colour - all white
- Mix up the display of books. Put some vertically against one end and beside that stack others horizontally. The horizontal ones will act as a book end and you can display another small decorative object on top of these as well
- Use an accent colour eg. have a large red vase on one shelf and on other, display stacked red leather boxes

Hope this helps!

Depending on the spacing between the shelves.. I would personally put some orchids or calla lilies in simple glass vases. Maybe a clock? I love the concrete letters from IKEA (I don't know if you've seen them.. they're candle holders but I like them just alone). Or any kind of decorative accessory that you particularly like.. ie. a blown glass vase, etc. Hope this helps a bit :)
