We are going to be replacing current flooring in our condo with laminate hardwood.
The place is on the small side (about 800 sq. ft.) so we definitely want to find ways to open up the space. I've been reading lots of articles about installing the flooring at an angle in order to create an illusion of a larger space which is fine and good, however, the biggest problem now is choosing a color for the flooring that will compliment the granite counters and dark cherry cabinets.
I've attached some pictures of the space. The wall color may or may not end up being changed; largely depends upon the color of the flooring and if it'll be difficult to coordinate.
Ideas? Thoughts? Opinions?

I don't know what is out there in laminate, but I just did a lot of research into the 3-layer engineered flooring products for our reno. I put in an oak with a slight white 'stone wash' which is gorgeous. That would look really nice with everything you have, except maybe the cherry. Those cabinets are trickey aren't they? Cherry floors would match the cupboards, but you might need to change the mushroomy wall colour.
re espresso colours- be careful if you don't have a lot of light. They might also make your small space look smaller. They really show all the dust. If you have a pet which sheds, beware.
re angle. ie the boards aren't laid flush or 90degrees to the walls? Sounds like something you might regret (and affect resale value). Installation might result in a lot of wastage.
Looking at the overall decor, mushroom color could be nice, one like that picture you have below your granite counter. Let us know what you finally choose.
Tough question. I like the idea of the darker expresso colours out there, but you said laminate and they will show dust and scrathes easier than lighter colours. So next best might be to find a colour that closely matches your cabinets in the kitchen to provide a cohesive look.
Or, since the walls and granite are grey ---maybe a grey floor would look good too. I like that thought and it will also keep the dust mites at bay a little longer methinks.
