Forum Progress Report

Thank you again for your continuing patience as we work to address  your concerns about the new forums. Hopefully you saw Our Apologies post last week.

This week, in addition to launching House & Home Online TV, we have been working to fix some challenges that you have  identified. For example, we relaunched the photo server, so hopefully you will experience no more challenges posting photos that are visible as pictures within the post, rather than attachments. (Old posts prior to the forum move will remain as attachments, however, and some images before the fix on November 9th may need to be posted again.) If you are still experiencing challenges with photos, please let us know with an email to forums [at] hhmedia.com.

Design
Our online designer, Ashley, is already working on a redesign of the font and other visual elements which you recommended. If you have some suggestions that you haven't posted yet, please be sure to do so— she'll be posting here in the Tech forums shortly, asking for further feedback. That way we can develop a visual solution that takes everyone's comments into account, but also works with the rest of the houseandhome.com experience.

Log-In & Speed
As for the log-in issues, please let us know if you have any problems. There are no longer two sets of users for forums and you should be fine using your email or username to login. You can now edit your profile. The servers have been working well so we hope that you're no longer experiencing slow speeds while in the forums. Please let us know at forums [at] hhmedia.com

Once again, we'd like to apologize for the service interruptions last week. We value this community and are working to improve your experience online. We will continue to update you on our progress and, as always, welcome all of your suggestions.

All the best,
Mike Zimmermann

Mike ,I just started a new thread under H&H chat but it should be under Tech ...I don't know how to move it from Chat to Tech.....Everthing went good except it didn't show up as a new post after it was submitted? It is under the H&H chat but not as the most recent post?Is this an area that still needs some tuning?     Thank-you for addressing our concerns.

Hello Mike,

A lot of my complains about the new format have already been posted by other members, but I still have one more - the ads between the post are annoying as heck. I understand the reason of their existence but I'm wondering if they could be perhaps repositioned on page. On my screen there is a lot of empty real estate on both sides of the posts - empty white space - could the ads be perhaps relocated??

Thanks.

Mike:  Being able to create new threads seems to be working now.  I clicked on quite a few of the forums and the box now says 'post new thread to this forum' .  Before today, the box (tried in Tech yesterday) would be in red and saying that I can not post new threads'.

Anyway, when I first come to the home page and not log in but just click the forum button and then click new posts, I would get nothing at all on the page. Why would I not see any posts what so ever?  Do I need to be logged in to see any posts/threads/comments when hitting the "New Posts" button?  I know I can go to the left and click a forum topic there but when I do that, I get them backwards from the original post to the most recent so may have to scroll through days and years of posts.  You can not change the way you see the posts and save it without being logged in either.

I was going to try it again but did not want to log out just yet.  When I am done here, I am going to come back in but not log in and see what I can and can't do then.  I noticed a 'Last Post' button at the top of the page when I am logged in but did not notice that if I am not logged in.  Will have a look for it.  Be patient with me, I am working at figuring this out.

You should be able to click on any of the individual forums (decorating and design, H&H Online TV, etc.) and see a list, whether you are logged in or not, and regardless of if you've read them before. My developer has suggested perhaps you clear your cache... and if I could ask you which forum you're not allowed to post a new thread in?

I am still getting the 'can't post new content' when I want to start a new thread.  Is there another way other than clicking on the tab to the left under the heading forum?

Also, are we always going to have to log in to see the new posts?  If you don't log in and click the forum button at the top and then click 'new post' button, you get a message saying there are no new post and they don't show you any posts at all - the box is blank.  From this point, the only way to see posts is to click on one of the subject tabs to the left, click on the post you want to see, and then scroll through days, months and even years of posts to get to the last one.  You can't change and save the settings either of how you want to view the posts when you are not logged in.

Oh boy.  Not sure what is going to be posted and what is not.  I wanted to edit the above post but was not going to let me so I started typing in the box below my post and part way through, it disappeared and is now letting me edit.  What I wanted to edit was the fact that after I posted the above, I hit the forums button at the top and then new posts again, and it did not give me anything more current than 5 plus days ago.  Huh?

So now for me to get new posts again, I will have to leave this site altogether and come back in and see what I get, I guess.?!?!?!?
