We're planning on doing our own kitchen backsplash and need ideas for tiles (ceramic/porcelain/tumbled marble/mosaic/glass?). We need to cover approx. 23 sq. ft. in a basic pattern (I was thinking offwhite/beige subway tiles) and 6 sq. ft between the stove and hood canopy with something else as a focal point. I like french country but do not like roosters. Our cabinets are cream glazed maple and the countertops are taupy beige w/ brown specks (silestone). The island base is walnut colour with same countertop as the rest of the kitchen. Wall colour is from builder in a pale buttery yellow. My drapes in breakfast area and valance above sink window are blue toile de jouy, therefore, if possible, I'd like to incorporate blue into my backsplash...does that make sense? I don't think I want to do diamond orientation for square tiles as I'm worried we won't get the cut just right (triangles) and I'm not crazy about the individual tile inserts with fruit/veggies. My budget is about $500 for materials. Any ideas in material, colour and pattern are welcomed!
