french door style refrigerator

Does anyone have a french door refrigerator? We are refreshing our kitchen and so far have bought a Kitchenaid range. I'd like to get the matching fridge and my DH likes the 3 doors. We also want the counter depth fridge since the regular one really sticks out too much. It is really "in your face". I have read some positive and some negative opinions on the internet. Any comments from people here?

By the way, I have adjusted to the black ceramic cooktop on my range. I'm not so fanatical anymore about the dirt, dust etc. I guess when something is brand new, you make more of an effort keeping it looking shiny. It still is a pain in the a** to clean with the special cleaner. It is a real work out for your arms.

It looks like that the people who own the 3 door counter depth fridge really seem to like it. It's good to know that there is enough space inside........the one I'm looking at is around 19.8 cu. ft. So I'll seriously consider it when the time comes.
The only drawback is that it's a lot more expensive than a regular 3 door.

WE love our Jennaire french door fridge.
We bought the black mirror finish, as I am not a fan of stainless steel.
The capacity in the french doors inside is not as good as a regular fridge,
but still very practical.
Also get a counter depth size. The difference it makes in overall look in the kitchen is worth the extra cost.
Good luck.

I have a Kitchenaid counter depth fridge/freezer. Mine is a side by side with no drawer on the bottom. I love it.

Even though I had to sacrifice some cupboard space to install it (I lost about 12 inches at the side and the over-the-fridge cabinets) the big fridge has never seemed as imposing because it doesn't stick out 4 or 5 inches beyond my counter like my Maytag did.

I'm not sure whether the bottom drawer would be much of an advantage. The side by sides have a good distribution of space. I like the fact that I don't have to bend over to get in and out of the freezer.

That is what we have bought for the new house and have using it for 3 months now and everyday I say how much I love it. I love the freezer drawer and it holds a lot.

We have the Kitchen Aid french door counter depth and LOVE IT!! Good amount of space in fridge and the water dispenser is VERY convenient. My only complaint would be the freezer is a little tight to navigate/awkward to get things in and out of. However, I would choose functionality of the fridge and esthetics over my freezer complaints.

I'd buy it again in a second!

Hey Donnasinc :)
Even though counter-depth fridges are (usually) a little wider then normal, they still (again, usually) have a smaller cubic foot size to the regular fridge. We have a family of 4.5 (step-daughter visits = .5) and have never had an issue with capacity. The 2 c.ft. difference isn't even noticed. We have a small stand-alone freezer in the basement for overflow... but we would need this even with a standard size fridge/freezer. Unless I had the ability to build the fridge back into the wall so that it was flush with my cabinetry, I would never go for a standard fridge again.

we have the jenn-air french door cabinet depth one and love it...its a great refrigerator and it makes so much sense to me since we hardly get anything out of the freezer and love not having to open a huge door. We have a ceramic stove and thats something I would never buy again. :)

I have a friend who is purchasing the french door model, counter depth. I really like the look of that and I think that is the way I will go next time but my only worry is that it might not be big enough.
This black ceramic stovetop of mine is definitely going to go bye-bye. After 5 years I have never gotten used to cleaning it.

Hi Frenchie,

I'm afraid I can't comment on the KitchenAid french-door fridge, but I can commend you for considering a counter-depth fridge... good choice! I agree that regular-depth fridges are "in your face". I've seen some wonderfully designed kitchens that are asthetically ruined because the fridge sticks out too far. I wish more fridge models were made in counter-depth size... in our last two homes/kitchen remodels, we've had trouble finding great looking fridges in this style. Our most recent home/kitchen remodel we purchased a Fisher Paykel... we love it!

As for KitchenAid... we have the gas range and the dishwasher. Wonderful appliances! We would have taken the KitchenAid fridge (likely the one you're looking at... it's terrific looking by the way!), but it was wider then we could deal with in this particular kitchen.

Always something to think about with counter-depth fridges... they get their capacity in their width... so be sure that you have width room for it to fit in your kitchen.

Good luck with this purchase!!
