Front door........

How dark can I go with my front door(s)? My garage door grabs all the attention.
I want to bring the eye to the doors. Do I stick with a darker brown or can I go with a completely different color?

sweetie

I bet the neighbours are all jealous and going out to buy paint right now . It looks very nice you have such a beautiful house it was a shame not to show it off. :)

Doors are finished, redressed and sporting a new 'coat' of Etruscan red.

Thanks for all your help; it turned better than I thought.

That is what you needed a stronger red but not pink looks good with just 1 coat. BTW love yor stone work looks very similar to mine. Where did you get it.

Etruscan red now on the permanent menu.......

Ok, this is it........everyone happy now? One coat only so far but I can certainly see the difference. Please say this is it!

a dusty rose-salmony colour as well... however she said that picture was taken after only 2 coats
maybe it's much closer to red now (x many coats later)

A small can of Etruscan red has been located at store about an hour and a bit from home - We're off to get it - DH is not impressed - lol! Store #1 found it and offered their apologies for suggesting a BM color match;(I hadn't even complained)

Doubtful he'll paint tonight (but you never know!) I'll post a photo when done.

on my screen it looks like a salmon, literally the colour of salmon filets! Kinda pinky/fleshy. Your home is so beautiful and I know its been said, but I have to agree, deeper /richer would be much nicer. This colour doesn't stand out enough for your home. Can't wait to see when its done! Now I'm hungry for seafood!

Its way darker than it looks on the screen, however I will order the 'right' stuff and beg DH to do it again........I won't be telling him until he gets the last coat of the 'wrong' stuff on. Wish me luck! lol

with Jeep. It might be my monitor, but your door looks washed out and not a focal point at all.

Look at Jeep's front door (thread called Jeep). Now there is a door that makes a super statement.

I don't know if it is my moniter but it is to Salmon Pink. You have a beautiful house and youcan really make it look fabulous with the right Red but that just isn't holding the door you need more color and stronger.

a very frustrating experience with BM's reds (8 coats and it still looked terrible). I don't know how your painting is going, but if it is turning out the same, do what I did and what Red is suggesting - use the BM as the primer and order in the F&B, It really makes a world of difference.

Half way there; this is after 2 coats. I think I like it.

I'm not trying to be a stick in the mud...

Their reds just suck.

I so knew you'd say that! lol... Well, we'll give it a try and I'll post a photo anyway; just for laughs.........

okay... deep breath here - I wish you well.

BM can't even come close to matching the depth of a Farrow and Balll Red. Use the BM as a primer and order in the Entruscan Red - it is WORTH the wait I assure you.

I got the paint; sort of. F&B does not 'stock' paint in B.C. - special order only -
comes from Ontario - 7-10 days.
The store 'stockist' offered me a color match to the Etruscan red. They also carry BM (?), anyway we came home with BM2102-30. DH thinks it's a good match.
We'll know tomorrow..........

that looks better! and you can still see the panels on the front and garage doors.

Good job! I think the ligher garage door is an improvement too

dunno if that's closer to a dark greyed teal (made it look muted tealish then turned the lightness down)

I also changed the colour on the garage door to something closer to the overal stucco colour, so it doesn't stand out as much.... something to ponder anyway

Thanks!! I have a fancier program, but I'm not sure how to use it, and am far too lazy to learn properly. MSPaint is easy enough to use, but I can't see to get the effect of painting an object, as opposed to painting OVER an object. You lose all texture and shading, plus the colours (even custom) leave much to be desired. Perhaps there's a better way to do it, but I don't know how, and for the few occasions I use it, it's good enough.

Anyway, for doing the odd front door, or drawing squares on someone's bedroom walls, I'm happy enough with my "Skillz" hehe.
