Front door window treatment help!

Maliika's picture

Hello,
I have a window in the top half of my front door that I need to cover for privacy (you can see all the way into the house). However, I have been searching all over and can not seem to find a good treatment for it. I would like something with a contemporary look (no pleats please!). I like roman blinds, but don't want the blind banging each time I open and close the door. I've thought about frosting the glass, but the door is white and I think it would be too much white.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm at a total loss for new ideas!
Thank you!

Here's a solution that we have tried (and love). The product is called "Wallpaper For Windows". Although I believe it can be purchased at Home Depot, we got ours at our local Benjamin Moore dealer. You can get it in a number of "patterns" in addition to the totally frosted look. It is sooooo easy to apply, but the best part is that if you tire of it, it can be easily removed. Check out their website for details: http://www.wallpaperforwindows.com

Have fun!

One alternative is frosted Mac-Tac, you know what your grandmother used to line her cupboards.
You can get it at most building centres or Wal-Mart, but you are limited by the width (around 24 or 26" I think)

I actually have a question about the peel on frosted look. I am in Vancouver and have looked everywhere for this product for my window above the front door. We have tried the spray but it eventually flakes off and looks horrible. I see deigners use the peel on kind all the time but have no clue where to find it!

I'd never done it before and found it quite easy. If you can draw a straight line and measure all you have to do is be able to paint in between the lines! You might want some tiny brushes to paint really close to the lines. Best of all, I'm in a rental and I believe that it will just wash (or peel) off for the next person if they don't like it!

Stained glass can look so great... it would look good above your door. It's not a window you necessarily need to see through but with the light coming through I'm sure it would look nice.
I'm curious to know how difficult it is to do it yourself with one of those kits?

We had this problem with our front door too - I bought a paint on stained glass kit at Walmart and painted on my own design - I Love It!
