Front Door/Garage Help

I have always loved black entry doors but don't know if it suits my style house. We are also looking at getting a carriage house style garage door and don't know whether to get it in white to match our mouldings or beige to match the house. I know the rule is to paint your garage door the same colour as your siding but, again, it may not suit my house. I have attached a few pictures I photoshopped tonight. Please don't mind the bad drawings.

I am open to any suggestions for entry door colour and garage door colour/style etc. Thanks so much for helping.

Ohhhh right, thank DBD, I was wracking my brain for her name, lol, and I sure wish she still had her show too! She was one of the first, and I always enjoyed watching it. I think she moved to the States and worked there but I am not sure whatever happened to her.

LeChatNoir, it's Lynette Jennings (I sure wish she still had a a show).

Just looking at the picture again I wondered if they garage door should be closer to the tone of the stairs. here's a mock up.

I too love the garage door, and I like it the same colour as the siding. I also like the door black. I have a black door, with gray siding and white trim and I love it (no bias here, huh?) A rule of thumb I once saw on a show years ago (does anyone remember a show with umm cant remember her first name, but last name was Jennings) where she said front doors and garages should not match and I have to agree. I thind your hourse looks great and the carriage style doors on the garage will add character.

i like your mock up of the garage door in the same color as the siding, i know you want the door to be noticeable and i think it will be just in the fact that it will be different then everyone elses.

I also like the garage door matching the house- does exactly what it's suppose to do, blend and let's your front door and entrance do their job of making the house look inviting.

garage door same colour as house; it blends in, makes the front door stand out more and also will deceive the eye to make your house look bigger

I like the idea of the garage door the same color as the house I find in your photoshop pictures when you did it in white my eye goes to the garge and when it is done in the house color my eyes goes to the front door and that is what you want. :)

Thanks so much. Yes, the garage door will still be automatic. The door will also have little windows at the top. The whole reason we are doing this is to give our house a little more character. Your suggestion is great. You are probably right... I am doing this in order for the new garage door to be a focal point so I don't want it to blend so much that no one notices. That is why I posted here. I knew someone would be able to help. Your idea of a red door is interesting. I am going to go and photoshop that right now:) Thanks again.

I like your house! Will your new carriage doors be on an automatic opener? I've never seen them on newer construction, but I think they are a great idea - they'll really add character! I would probably do the doors something in between white and the colour of your siding - enough to blend in a bit, but not so blendy that your carriage doors (a great feature) aren't obvious...does that make sense?

As for a black front door, I think it would look great! You could also do a punch of colour with a bright red door - I'm thinking a true red would be nice.
