Try Barberry, they are burgandy all season. Check with your Nursery first to see if they grow in your area.

here's a pic of burning bush.

I thought of something else red...a burning bush. They are green for most of the year except for late summer right through until late fall when they turn BRIGHT red! Not sure if it's ok for zone 9 but I think almost anything works in that kind of climate. am I right? just a thought.

first of all, I like your palm tree!!! would hibiscus work? Maybe some sort of tropical type plant. I'm in zone 6 so I don't have much experience with those kinds of plants so I just searched for zone 9 on Google. You should do that...it's a lot easier to pick your own plants because you know what you want. It'll look great when it's finished, though!!! Good luck!

i love this mock up. i went to lowes today and got the red paint for door.
and bought new clippers. i looked at the plants there and didnt know what to buy or where i would put them after i got them. i am not creative. i would like to layer my garden in front of hedge.just a row of some plant, do you know what to plant here and by the tree. and on the other side by the palm. i liked the idea of a birdbath.
thank you tall turtle

I tried some different plants, separated as well as with a bird bath, and two levels on the hedge. I also tried the birdbath over by the brick wall. I think with some taller colourful piece there it might be nice.

That tree in your front is something. Must be nice to be able to grow such lush things.

that looks so great, dustbunnydiva, would you put anything against the brick wall to the right of the palm tree?

Nice mock up. I would bring the hedge down even lower now that I see it below the window. The red/burgandy coloured plants in the mock up already make a huge difference. Under the large tree the red/ burgandy is great but only put in 3 plants and spaced apart. Right now there are too many plants on top of each other in the overall original picture.

Get those hedge clippers and pruners out.....edit, edit, edit. It will make a HUGE difference.

I wanted to play with this to do some outdoor stuff.

Gads...zone 9...I can only dream being in zone 3.

Trim your hedge in front of the windows to just below the windows. Right now it is hiding your house. The shrub in front of the large tree remove. It detracts from the large tree. I would add some colour to your garden. Alot of similar coloured greens right now. Try adding a few plants/shrubs in burgandy/red (not too many.....maybe 3) just in the forground of the large tree. Also introduce same colour shrubs or grasses by the palm (but not the same plant as by the large tree) The burgandy/red colour will look nice with your brick.

that is a nice space, but overgrown. ! I am not an expert, and this just my opinion, but get rid of all the overgrown bushes ! I walks up and down streets in my neighbourhood with an imaginary chain saw n my back pocket and just imagine how many yards I could lay bare !!!!

However, your front door seems to be "hiding" and I would do as much as I could to bring it front and centre, visually speaking of course ! Paint it a bright red or something completely different from the rest of the house, and pull in that colour in plants and accents . . . I am sure more experienced people can help you better than I can as to varieties etc,
