I was jsut afraid of that I think I will stick with oven method for chicken. My SIL told yesterday that she buys the cooked chickens in the store than she brings them home puts them on low in the crock pot to keep them warm and it works really well. BTW KFC recipe is truly a secret we used to get the spices in a sealed bag with no ingredients on it and just mix it with flour. I don't know if they can still do that or not.
I have done whole chickens before, but they were thawed. Like someone mentioned - the skin is not crispy, and I find that the long cooking time cooks all the juices out of the meat. I do prefer oven roasted to the crockpot for chickens.
share the secret recipe with us..........please.............
That was one of my first jobs when I was in school. Back in the days when KFC was huge we were so busy. We never had McD at that time and it was the only takeout around. worked for $1.25 hour and I thought I was rich. Took me years before I could stand the smell of those places man you get sic of the smell of deep fried anything after working there.
actually i made chicken tonite too...except i made my homemade version of KFC
That's why I chicken out I like the skin to brown and be crispy and I thinkin a slow cooker it would be more stewed.
i was wondering about that cuz i prefer my chicken to be crispy on the outside...so i've been tempted to do it too...but to ''chicken''.. :D to do it...LOL
Yeh it was a whole chicken so I bailed and defrosted it in the microwave and have it in the oven. Will do more research on that one before I try it. Pieces I can see being ok but a whole one scares me.
I would try it, I've done it with turkey thighs with good results.
If you can cook a frozen roast in the slow cooker, I'm pretty sure you can cook a chicken as well. :)
I think I will give it a try let you know how it turns out.
My mom often makes chicken legs in a BBQ sauce in the slowcooker, it works really well, the meat is fall off the bone, and very juice. Hope this helps.
