I bought SS eggs the other day. Farm fresh eggs have that rich orange colour because of the grass, etc they eat. I hate that orange. Actually I can't stand the sight of an egg at the best of times in the morning. Anyways these SS eggs are bright orange like the farm fresh but I know they're not or they would have labelled & charged accordingly. Made my key lime pie that calls for 4 egg yolks. Yes, my pie is now has sort of an orange tint - definitely discoloured. Ugh. DH would never notice but it just turns me off after all the trouble of squeezing a dozen little limes. What is hells bells are they feeding those chickens?

I just couldn't eat a piece of pie last night. I know most of it's in my head because most of that damn pie sure isn't in my stomach. :(
Hey, maybe this the secret for a new diet.
3BC - no food colouring in the house. Won't be a problem next time because I'm never buying SS eggs again. Don't care how much money I save.
I may have to invest in the sunglasses. Or serve a candlelight dinner but then DH would be supicous and would be wondering if he missed an anniversay or something.
Traditionally key lime pie has green food colouring in it also so that might have camouflaged the orange.
that color of egg would be ickey :( however....keylime pie is awesome and i cant believe you even squeeze the limes.....although someone was telling me she gets friends of hers to bring her the bottles of juice from florida when they go as you cant buy it anywhere and she did say its just as good as the fresh squeezed and i can vouch for that...i ate enough of it last weekend :D

I get what you are driving at because I can't stand eggs and just having any reminder they are in something I do like is enough to turn me off. How about only eating that pie with your sunglasses on? maybe you have some with a tint that will take the yuck out of that orange while you enjoy the pie?
