Hello,
I have a cathedral style living room/ dining room in my home and I am currently in the process of getting artwork for my dining room. I have decided to go with six prints of vintage war of the worlds illustrations. I am in the process of picking the mat and frame style that I want to use in the space. The options I have narrowed it down to are:
- double thick white mat with thin mat-black metal frame
- double thick white mat with thin chrome metal frame
- double mat - one dark grey and one white with the thin mat-black metal frame.
I have attached a few pictures showing the space, one of the prints and my frame/mat options! Please note, my paint colour is Benjamin Moore - Manchester Tan and as you can see in the pictures I have a lot of black accents through the space and there is some chrome in the chandelier and the sconces. Should I go with the chrome or the black...please let me know your opinion as I would like to make the right decision!
Thanks for your help

Lovely room, CorinneL! The prints deserve all the attention they can get, so I would skip the grey matting and go for the double thick white mat with thin chrome metal frame. I think it looks sharp in the photos you have here!
Check out what I did with these basic Ikea Ribba frames:

Good luck with the art!

I would choose chrome or aluminum frames with white mats, possibly with the darker mat beneath to create the pinstripe as you have shown in a photo. It's a nice pairing with the dark art, and to me it repeats the contrast between the DR lighting and the dark furniture pieces in the room. Glass/chrome/aluminum adds a nice sparkle.
Lovely home.
The combination I favor is to go from dark to light - black matte frame, lighter gray than you show and then the white. Your gray is too dark and while subtle, I think the lighter gray would look quite sharp.
Have your considered the double matted version but reversed, with the dark grey over top of the white, then with a brushed chrome frame, instead of shiny?

I think I like the white mat/grey mat combo with the black frame. It is really hard to tell in your pictures though - the last picture posted is the clearest. I think the black will work better by defining the pictures. The silver might not be a strong enough colour to pull it off. Do you have any silver frames you could put in the room or tape to the wall (minus the glass) to get a feel for it
Also, the dimensions in your third picture of the paper squares that are taped to the wall look like a different shape than the 4th picture posted of the actual print. Is that just an optical illusion?
Or, I guess there is a fourth option and I could do a white frame and white mat... I always love the look of that when I see it in design magazines.
