Today was the garage sale and I am glad to have that over with. I had tables set up in the garage and as I came upon things to sell I was taking them out there and pricing them right away. It worked out good and I was ready yesterday so this morning I only had to open the garage door and the sale was on. I was busy but not as much as I had expected and things that sold and things that didn't sell really surprised me. Big items sold and the little 50cent things didn't. What was left we loaded upa nd took to the Thrift shop and it was fun to see all the other trucks there unloading their left over garage sale items. That is the last thing on my list now it is just move furniture out to the garage for the movers and they will be here on Wed. Our stuff is going into storage and we are now going to start looking for a place.

Good idea not to let yourself be pressured. Also check out motels with kitchen facilities, as long as the place is clean and safe. You're heading towards the high season for motels but it might tide you over for a while until the summer rates go into effect. The trailer is a good idea too if you can find a RV site that you can rent by the month.
We always teased the kids that they should build us an inlaw suite and we would just move from one to another. No way in h*ll would that ever happen. Even a week is more than I can handle - sometimes even a weekend.
The other thing you might look for is someone that needs a house sitter. I think you and dh would be the ideal clean couple.
It is a lot of work to move everything but we worked a better price as the mover is moving the new owners in and us out on the same day. He has cut us both a really good savings as he is coming onto the island loaded and leaving loaded and that saves him a ton on ferry fees. So we have to have everything outside in the garage so their stuff can go in thehouse. We used this mover before and he is good and gives you a flat rate not by the pound.
We are going and just staying a motel for the first few days and if we don't find something right away we will probably buy aholiday trailer. If we buy and have to wait a month to get in we will go and visit the kids for a while we figure we can use the month up going to stay with each for a week. It is hard to buy when you don't live in the town I didn't like feeling rushed on my choice so we decided to wait until we could stay there and look.
feels good to get rid of some stuff doesn't it....i love garage sales....r u feeling any lighter now???
and so the excitement of house hunting begins....have fun!!!! ;)
I am happy all went well with your sale. Why are the movers not taking your furniture right from inside the house? It seems so much work to move it yourself into the garage for them. :)
So, Jeep are you moving out of the house Wed? Where are you going to live while you look for somewhere to live?
Garage sales are a lot of work aren't they? But it sure feels nice to get rid of a bunch of stuff at once! When I moved back to BC from Ontario, I did a major garage sale - I only moved what could fit in my car or be shipped on the bus. People started showing up at 6:30am, and I was pretty much sold out by 10am. Since there was so little left, I just packed the rest in my car to take to the Goodwill. I lived in the upstairs of a house, and actually had people come right in my front door looking for the sale once it was over....pretty creepy!
