garden design help needed!

Can anyone suggest some resource (web or book) to help with landscaping design for a child-friendly small city garden? I want to keep things SIMPLE, and whenever I look in books in Indigo, I get overwhelmed! We have a long narrow garden with a walkout from the back of the house (really only a square landing and stairs). We are getting a new shed and I'm not sure where to put it--I think this needs to be a starting point but looking to see what others have done.

Thanks!

Alison

They have a vast garden section.

I would also buy some graph paper and allow 1 square to represent 1 ft. and measure out you back garden on the paper.

This will give you an idea of where to put the shed and just how much room you have for other things like a table/chairs etc.
If the garden is that small and you want low maintenance why not cover the areas with stones or bark and just use large planters of annuals for colour and perennials ground cover.

You could also incorporate a path of some where for interest with the 24'x24' slabs that come in a few colours.
