They talked about it on Cityline today saying you can stain with it over existing stain. Anyone use it and where do you find it?

What you need to understand about gels or any other stain that can go over existing finishes (some gels do soak in just like normal if the wood is not sealed) is they do sit on top and are really a glaze (transparent finish). Unless something can soak into the wood, it isn't technically like other stains but they can make a difference.

I used a poly/stain on some wood around here recently. On the raw wood it went on like normal stain but because it has the poly finish in it, any additional coats wouldn't soak in like normal stain. It still got darker and you could still see the grain. It also did go over some other wood I have with some shellac on it (I was testing) but I can't say how long it will hold since it really is supposed to have any previous sealer type finish removed first. The gel stains that are made for this type of thing will adhere better.

I have had great success with a wax stain that I purchased from a flea market that dabbles in antiques and furniture.

I liked the tin so much that I used all the paste up in no time.

It was easy to apply on unfinished natural wood and would not hesitate to use it again:)

Just what I thought. They made it sound like a miracle stain.
