Half wall suggestions

Hi, i have a half wall opening from my hallway leading into the dining room, however its right by the front door and in the winter everytime that door opens the cold draft goes right into where everyone is sitting. I did not want to go through the mess of closing it up to make a wall from ceiling to floor nor did I want to lose the light.  Would anyone know of what I could put there to stop this? I was even thinking of those glass blocks but thought that might look tacky.  The opening is 5ft by 4ft.  Any suggestions welcome. Thanks

You can also look at having Plexiglass installed, they don't require any demolition at all and comes in different patterns and colors.

Hi there, i think we shall be going for the etched glass look.  Our hallway is quite long so im not so worried about the coldness coming through there.  Thanks for everyones suggestions!!

I like the look of the glass blocks - in moderation, and we just did that to provide separation from kitchen and dining room to provide a splash barrier from the new sink.

You would want it to go to the ceiling I believe and Mrs. Peacock has made a great suggestion with the shower wall/door glass that can also be etched. Still get lots of light and provide some air distraction. Now the downside is the you might end up creating a wind tunnel in the opening space that brings the colder air in much faster.Smile

Hello Chany,

As I mentioned in my previous response, I think this would make a great question for our Ask A Designer page:

Good luck!

The only other thing I can think of is textured glass.  Shower door glass or reg. glass for french doors, etc.  You would have to have someone frame it in and have it sit on top of the half wall and go right up to the ceiling with it (might have to use wood at the top and bottom as spacing so you can get the height.  Let us know what you end up doing and post some pictures.
