about 35" high, and I have small children who use it (saw your post in D&D!). The youngest one is 2 and he can reach it just fine, mind you my boys are a bit taller than average- they come from "big stock" (not by my genes), still he's just 2 and it's not a problem.
...the stairwell to the basement.
