my patience is wearing more than a little thin right now at the continuous onslaught of contractors coming into our home to finish it. It seems that because I do a lot of work from home that it has given the contractors a licence to delay finishing whatever job they are sent here to do. I've lost track of how many times they have said..."are you home during the day?" Which translates into..."we can't manage our resources properly so we're going to try and do 4 jobs at once and since you are at home we'll come back later..."
This week alone, we've had the front porch ripped apart (that took 2.5 days to be put back together), the siding ppl have started to repair the lose siding but who knows when they will be back, the landscaper has dug a hole in the front yard but there is no sign of the tree they are supposed to fill it with.. (the whole placement of the tree was a major drama and required me to pull my "snotty-lawyer-i'm-going-to-create-a-mountain-of-paper-if-you-don't-move-the-hole" stance.). the paving crew has banned us from parking in our driveways until they can finish the paving job (right about now I'm about to don my traditional regalia and head out to do an anti-rain dance) and now I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting for the drywall guy to show up to strip the sipple off the guest bedroom's ceiling (he was suppposed to be here at 8) and once again, a room has had to be cleared, packed up and moved! (this is the 11th time since we moved in here we've had to pack a room up because of ongoing work on it)
Then there are the contractors that don't even bother to show up once a WO is issued. We can't use our fireplace as the fan wasn't connected and the grout on the surround needs to be redone. That WO has been issued since June 30th.
The worse by far is the crummy attitude some of the contractors are pulling.. like how dare we complain about their crappy work. There is one contractor I just want to choke because of his attitude. Well excuse me all to H, if you had finished the railings in a professional manner we wouldn't have to complain now would we? SHEESH!
Then there is the trade that comes in and does their job but wrecks the wall, paint or something that requires yet another trade to come in and fix their mess. Our front hall has been repainted 6 times because of other trades damaging the paint and drywall.
Don't get me wrong, we love the actual house, it's design and the way we finished it but mannnnnnnnnnnnnn, this has been going on for nearly 4 months now and we've had so little time to sit back and enjoy the house (I often wonder why I was in such a rush to get the drapes made and hung, the furniture ordered and delivered when we spend so little time with it all actually in place...GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
PS, the drywall guy just called to say he'll be herewithin thehour (after I called the builder and ranted at him not being here) he also said the "job" is going to take 2 days of which we were very clear about the time frames last week that taking 2 days is not an option as hubby is being bounced around the globe right now and is only home tomorrow for 18 hours (after being away for 5 days) and heading off to kiwiland on Fri morning - he needs his jet lag catch up sleep - and to be honest I need a very large bottle of vino collapso right now.. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR)

obella....bottle sounds fine to me...why waste it with a glass!!!!
as someone who has been thru countless renos, I sympathize.
So go ahead and vent...........I know you may not want to hear this now, but trust me, it will all be worth it.
I have never had children, but often think it must be similar....ya know, all that pain, you think you'll never do it again....but then in the end, the result is so worth it, you may even think of doing it again....albeit, in a year or more...
My partner and I felt so slighted sometimes...
I work at home as well. I'm an artist....a very sucessful 'starving artist', but it was the same thing...oh, she's always home...we can come and go as we please.
We got ripped off so many times, jobs that were rather unexpected and required immediate attention...and being two women sure had its drawbacks...I often felt if there was a man around telling them what I told them, it would be taken much more seriously...
Luckily in the end, we found someone we could trust completely AND did good work.
When I see the results now........ahh, it is Heaven...
so hold on.........don't compromise your ideas....and soon you will be sitting in front of your fire with a bottle, I mean glass of wine...
