HELP AGAIN!!! Need inexpensive lighting ideas

Constance's picture

Hello again,

Given that the baptism reception is taking place in my yard, I also need some ideas for lighting in the evening. Preferably things that are dirt cheap or that can be made from things I have around the house. I got this great idea from the Martha Stewart web site for jelly jar/Mason jar lanterns (see pic below), but I was wondering if any of you had any other ideas...

Thanks a bunch!

If you know anyone with a string of outdoor Christmas lights with only white bulbs, you could dress a fence or a tree for a bit more sparkle and light.

I have also seen mini light strings attached beneath outdoor umbrellas, if you have any of those.

I can't remember what show this was on but they took glass votive holders and glued them to various lengths of dowelling.Put a tealight in the holder and place the pieces of dowelling throughout the yard.Looked very nice.

Constance, I went to the "buck or 2" and they had these pretty butterfly tea light holders for $2.00. Perfect for outside parties!

I've taken a clear vase, placed sand on the bottom, placed a single long stemmed bloom, filled the vase with water to the top and placed a floating candle on the very top of that. It's very easy and very elegant.

I don't have the article so I am not totally sure what the directions were but in one of the recent past Martha Stewart Wedding issues there were instructions for some beautiful candleholders. I cannot describe how beautiful they were!! They took clear glass straightsided round votive candleholders and covered the outside of the glass with lace. I think it said they used doublestick tape to adhere it onto the glass. The lace was scalloped and it didn't cover the whole outside of the glass. Then put a tea light inside. They were just stunning!! maybe you could buy a bit of lace a play around with this idea.

I checked the MS website but they are not listed.:(

when I got married, I picked up a ton of candleholders at Dollarama - 2/$1 and 4/$1. Then a bag of tea lights and you are good to go. You can be simple - it's the candlelight itself that does the trick. Good luck with the baptism! :)
