Help! Curb Appeal

Lena's picture
Lena

This is my first post. We are down sizing to a 1200 sq foot house with NO curb appeal. Any suggestions regarding exterior paint colour... was thinking of taupe and black to eliminate the stark white. Thanks!

Now those were worth waiting for. Lots of good ideas in your yard too. Very nice. I like the driveway, the urns, the colours, just a very nice house and yard.

Thanks for your kind words.

The house was the same colour as the one pictured at the beginning of this thread. The problem was that it looked very ordinary and there had been vines growing on the side of the house which left marks when we removed it so we painted. I have always liked the look of painted brick and when I watched Cityline and they were in favour of having it painted I was happy to be able to do so.
We followed instructions of the people who owned the B.M. store and worked out well.

Dolly.....your house looks great! I can't believe you did it 15 yrs ago, it looks like a recent reno. Do you have any before pics?

I am going to try this again. The House and the shed we painted. I hope it was worth it. I just wanted to show that the brick can be painted and will still look good. as I mentioned before it's been 15 years and it is still in good repair.

We have an IMAC and it's a bit different from others I think. I do appreciate the help.

Dolly to resize your pictures Right click on them and Open in Paint then click on Image stretch and skew change that to 20 in both boxes and save as. That should resize to fit.

I am trying to attach pics of my house and the shed in the back yard to show you that we have painted the house and shed. The brick was the same colour as your home.

I will have to find out how to alter the size of my pics because it will not accept them the size they are now. I am not very good at this but will find a way.

Thanks for the help Jeep!!!!

I am overwhelmed by so many taking the time to share ideas. Rob & I are so appreciative. I love the mock-ups and Spunky, you did a fantastic job. This truly provides a sense of what the front can look like with a bit of elbow grease and imagination.

I hope to repay at some point with an idea or two!

Spunky...That is a really cute mock-up...it gives a good idea of how it can look :)

Congratulations on your new purchase :bliss:
I was playing 'mockup', although not as savy as some, and came up with an idea for landscaping that includes your nice brick entrance you showed in the above post. I also tried to 'free hand' a little bistro table too LOL. Not to sure of the type and color of plants you like, so I just put in a little yellow for splash : )

I was up for some more playing especially when it came to what if you paint out the brick. So here goes.

BTW I love the big tree too and think if you have a large front deck/walk like in the pictures that came out and featured that tree you would have a very grand entrance.

I will send a picture tomorrow so that you can see the colour we painted the house,

Just a small thing - my first reaction was the removal of the wrought iron railing and the very small tree/bush in front of it. Also opening up the landscaping with curves and colour would make a large change.

So many great ideas. Painting the home intrigues me and I too would love to see a picture if available. I am also appreciative of the mock ups. These visuals can help prevent a lot of mistakes in advance! I mentioned our focus will be the interior (We move June 16), but feel we need to do at least some work to add some elegance to the exterior. Thanks again!

Dolly: I am glad you were ambitious enough to tackle painting the brick and love it. Love to see a pic.

Lena: your eaves need to be lighter as Joanna posted. As they are it drags down the roof line.
Garage door should be painted taupe to match the brick.

Although I hesitate to say this as many may not agree I will say that I have a bungalow with the same colour brick. When we moved here it was not a very attractive house but I loved the neighbourhood. We painted the brick. It's a lovely taupe. The trim is done in cloud white. New shutters also in cloud white and it looks like a different place. We have had many compliments on it and we are pleased that we decided to go this route. It's been 15 years and although we thought it would have to be repainted by now it is still in very good shape. we followed all instructions given to us about painting such as proper preparation. Because it's a bungalow we did the painting ourselves and it was completed in a few days.

I thought I would mention this to you as a possibility for your home.

I also love the tree in your front yard. It's such a nice compliment to your home.
