Help with decorating an extra large fireplace mantle

HockeyRocks's picture

I just moved into a new home and have a HUGE fireplace mantle in my family room. I was initially planning on putting my TV on top of it but found that the viewing angle was too high and also thought it would be nice to make something other than the TV the main focus of the room.
I am now perplexed as to how I should decorate this space. The mantle is 27" deep so if I put a picture on the wall you can't see the bottom part.
Here are the dimensions: Mantle is 27" deep, 83" wide and 57" tall. There is 48" of wall above the mantle. Please help! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Carrie, I tried uploading a few photos but it won't work for some reason. I just tried again with no result. Not sure why...  I really like the metal sculpture idea.  My house is decorated in a modern somewhat minimalist fashion. Thanks for the idea!
