New wall and door installed in livingroom to office
Living Room 1
Living Room 2
Exposed Brick Wall & Staircase
Fabric for draperyI have not been here for ages! I recently sold my home and purchased a townhouse built in 1889, so I am starting over again! Alot of working has been and is currently being done. I am usually quite decisive with paint colours but really need your help this time! I have attached several pics of my living room. The existing carpet was removed and replaced with oak floors, the wood trim still needs re-staining, I am still debating whether or not to paint the spindles on the staircase and I have purchased fabric for drapes. I had a wall installed along with double etched-glass doors leading in to my office. I would like this room to be the same colour as the living room. I had crown moulding installed which will be a creamy white.
I recently used Farrow & Ball in my kitchen and loved it. I have been experimenting with test pots in the living room (you can see the odd square here and there which I have painted). I thought I use French Gray, but during the day it looks very "pastel-like" in some areas. It is a very sunny room.
Unfortunately the colours on my pics may be a little off...but close enough.
Thank you!!!

Hi,
I just recently bought a new home - townhouse so I'm fairly new to decorating but I love what you have put together so far. I agree with Mrs. Peacock - it looks very elegant. Great job! : )
Love it decoraholic! It looks great with your floors, brick and furniture. Perfect! Your home looks lovely all decorated for Christmas!
Thank you for your suggestions, very much appreciated! I ordered Farrow & Ball Stony Ground #211 today, after trying a few more sample pots. I loved how the hue changes with the light from a tan to a taupe. I think it will work well with the bricks as well. I will pick up a BM creamy white for the crown moulding, windows and staircase spindles. I have a hard time painting out original woodwork from the 1800's so I will stain the rest of the stairwell and doors to match the floors. The painter is coming Friday so I am excited to see how it turns out. I will post pictures once I figure out how to do that properly! Thanks again.

Try a swatch of BM manchester tan and see how it looks in the room. I'll include a picture from Pottery barn showing a duvet/sham set that appears to have a lot of similar colours to those in your room: blues, corals, near-white, greens, neutrals. I have been collecting pictures from websites with this colour as I am considering it for a room in my home. I forget where the second picture came from but I'll include it also because it shows that it's dark enough not to make the walls feel like a tinted white.
If it was my house. I`d paint the walls a taupe. Green or grey is too much of a contrast to the peachier brick. I`d also paint out the window trim, crown molding and coffee table in an off white. I`d replace all the door trim with a crown molding look (getting rid of the rosettes) as well paint out the baseboards in an offwhite.
I find your room a little too ecclectic. The greens in your rug and accessories are too different and not a doll collector. The small basket in front of the fireplace is too small. LOVE your lantern? and candlesticks on your fireplace. The wingback chair is a little dated and could be recovered. The throw on the love seat and chandelier are absolutely gorgeous! The doggie is adorable. :)
For the staircase, I`d paint the spindles the same off white as your trim and baseboards and paint the treads in a dark brown (that matches your fireplace). Not sure what the blue thing and small plant are doing in the corner as well as the black storage box, but I`d take those out. Pears, vase and table are cute, but candle is a little too much of a good thing.
Fabric is gorgeous. The blue wing chair however is too much of a contrast as the fabric looks more of an aqua blue. I would do the fabric in classic drapery panels as well as a couple of accent cushion covers.
Your room has many beautiful features. Maybe you could match up the brick wall grout for the paint colour. That would tie in the drapery material. I can see a creamy/putty colour in them I think. Are they blue? I love the idea of black treads and handrail with white risers for the stairs. That will be striking against the brick wall. Show us pictures.
With the blues that you are using as an accent, I would go with an off white. Not sure that I like the greys at all. I was going to suggest a golden- yellowy colour (like maple sugar from Pratt and Lambert) but after seeing your drape material I would stay with the creamy white colour.
As for the stairs, I say yes, paint the spindles the same white/cream as what you choose for the walls and then the newel post and handrail in black (or stain black). I think you already have carpet on the steps - if not you could paint the risers white and the tread stained black and run a sisal rug trimed with a wide black border up the middle of the stairs.
Love your home and decorating - very elegant.
sorry for the mess above....not sure how to post pics here anymore??!!
