I really need help ladies PLEASE! Keep in mind this is a loan of a table (they don't care if pant or alter it...)
I have 4 chairs of this style that I love, we painted them red with MIL, who is no longer allowed to paint at my house. So I want to make it look better, obiously! The table legs really bother me the most. I'm thinking of painting? Stripping and staining would be too much work. I am including some inspiration from PBarn!
p.s. painting all of it is the best option I think??
p.s. I did get a vinyl table cloth but am not completely satisfied :hairpull:

OMG! I feel so lazy! I know this project has been on my mind forever and a day, and still I have done nothing!! OUCH!
I like the ideas, yeah I wish I could ditch the table altogether!! Actually what would work best for the space would be banquet (sp?) seating along the wall with a small table. It would also give us more storage in the ktichen. However, we're not so handy...
I like the Home Depot table, it's price is good as well. I will look into it for sure.
I saw a nice one at IKEA but it was too much over $400. I guess for now, I'm just never going to be happy with the layout options I'm stuck with for my kitchen!!
I will get busy and start working on the chairs for sure! Thanks for the inspiration!!
I have almost the same chiars they have a pillow seat though. When I got the table it was just plain stained oak, with plaid fabric on the seats... I was able to recover them. I didnt take a pic but I found one that was close so here is the before and after.
The chairs are great, and I agree with condogirl -- just paint white or black over the paint that's already one them, and rub down the edges afterward a bit. I don't think you would want to use a melamine paint on the chairs, however.
Also, I would ditch the table. No offence, because we have one too (oval not round) that looks exactly like that one. The colonial set from Sears circa 1978. Get rid of it! How about this nice small one from Home Depot for $129. You could leave it wood and just stain/poly it and it would look smashing with the black or white painted chairs. This table is also a drop leaf, so you could push it up against the wall whenever you wanted a bit more space in your tiny eating area.
I think the problem with the table is not the legs, but the top surface looks too thin. You need a base underneath to make the table look heavier on top. Just like in the inspiration pics. This is obviously going to be very difficult to do, being a round table.
I like the white inspiaration pics, but it all depends on your room decor. Otherwise I would opt for a dark ebony.
Hey, or toss the table, and go shopping! :D ;)
This is what I was thinking.. Kind of like this...

What abour ripping the legs off and putting chucky ones on? You can buy the premade legs at Rona or Home Depot... Would they allow you to do this? Then I would paint it red and put a dark black on top but snd it down so that the red comes through... I think that is what I would do.. Unless you want to repaint the chairs white...
See, I like the idea of hideing the table legs myself. Yes it is real wood. I just find the legs so ugly! I think the idea of covering with long cloth and top with glass is best to keep everything in place. Keep in mind kids are a problem, if they pull on the cloth will it stay in place? I wonder? I've seen this technique used for side tables before, looks good. I was also thinking maybe it's worth stripping the chairs down to the original wood (antiques) to get a nicer look with a beautiful stain? More neutral or natural looking.
We only just put the table in place, we are working with a VERY tight space ( 7 ft X 6 ft) OUCH!
Is the table a laminate or is it real wood? Anyways to save money I'd find a large piece of material or a real cloth that goes all the way to the floor. Then I'd put a glass top or small vinyl cloth on top for practical reasons. Depending on the colours that you find, I'd then paint the chairs that colour. If you would want to change clothes, I'd do the chairs in a black. A lot depends on how long you'll have this table. BTW, if you go with a bottom cloth, pick up a bed sheet holder at the dollar store. It helps keep everything in place. Personally I'd like to hide the table and accent the chairs.
If it was my set....i would paint the chairs black and the legs on the table black and leave the wood on the table top...that would look sharp.......use melamine paint....and it will last forever.....I know someone who did this with a country set from The Brick...you know the table with the white apron underneath and the curved farmhouse chairs....and it looked awesome in black with the table top staying wood.....good luck..............
I would give everything a top coat of white, and then sand down the edeges show through... I think it would give it a really cute shabby chic look ...
So you say a red undercoat for the table with white on top. Paint chairs red?
Funny i have almost the exact same chairs, but with fabric covered seats. I just painted mine out a dark black/brown. But for yours I think if you like the PB ones you should put a quick coat of the red on the table then paint your table white and sand down the edges. I think it would look great.
