just for you ladies.....lol we are keeping the big square ottomon as pictured....tried the bench one but the color of the seude took on a pink hue in front of my sofa......i know its not the million dollar furniture but on my budget it sure helps and we will enjoy it.........the pics are not the best the batteries are going dead...that ottomon is honking compared to my other one, i could 10 pairs of feet on there and a tray lol...so what do you all think?

IM IN DESPERATE NEED OF AN ACCENT COLOR....i think with the browns i need something scrumptious.....what do you think of red.....no smoodgie DH wont paint red walls lol as much as he likes them in others homes boo hoo....we would like to keep the paint simple, neautral and pretty light as the rooms are not too large....if i go with the greens as planned what accent colors can i use?

I think picking a wall colour is one of the most difficult design challenges. I had the same difficulties you are having now and it took us well over 6 months to decide on a colour that looked good and was neutral. I walked into Sherwin Williams one day with my mom and picked up a few paint chips that were in the neutral family. DH and I went over the paint chips and narrowed it down to one paint chip and we decided to do the bedrooms in a lighter colour and the living/dining room in one shade darker so when you stand in any of the doorways, you see a different colour on the walls. We absolutely love the colourr. In the bedrooms we used Sherwin Williams Divine White, but had it colour matched to Ralph Lauren paint. It is a very neutral colour and simply looks light brown in our rooms...We have western exposure in one room and southern exposure in another. Also, much like yourself, we have a lot of brown furnishings. You may want to check it out.

I feel your pain trying to pick a color! It took me a year to pick my LR color...lol. I ended up with Vellum, a wheaty yellow. It may go well with your new brown sofa.

Hi Janet, due to the colour differences on our monitors, the colour I picked might be off from the true colours in your room. That being said take a look at:

Pratt & Lambert
29-21 Dependable
29-22 Durability (this is a lighter colour then what I mocked up)

and the closest I could match on my decks for Benjamin Moore are:

CC-548 Asphalt
CC-546 Metropolis (again the lighter colour)

Because its leaning on a monochromatic look using these colours you will want to try and use textures for pillows and drapes.. i.e, the fluffy hair pillows or linens, silks etc

If you are going to go with red drapes, accesorize with hints of red in both the living room and also in the dining room. Good luck with your decision, and be too worried about going dark :)

I kind of agree with the others..#41 did look great. I didn't particularly like any of the ones that I mocked up for you..but I wanted to show you some of the colours that you had been considering. I really liked the golden yellow colour that Decorguy posted. So..my vote is for the dark green or the golden colour..I think both looked really good.

I like the one Decroguy did I think it is #41 post I think it gives you the finished look you are after. I know it is had to go dark but once you do you will love it.

Here are a few colours for you Janet. The first is Gobi Dunes by Sico..I have it in my living room and I love it!! The rest are BM..in the following order: Manchester tan, Tiramisu, Vellum, Sombrero, and Concord Ivory. Do you fancy any of these??

smoodgie, i will check out these colors as well

I feel your paint-picking pain!! It can be SO hard to select just the right colour.

Here are some BM golds that seem to go well with red -- maybe one of them will work with your curtains:

CC-200 Vellum
CC-300 Sombrero
HC-12 Concord Ivory

I've never used Manchester Tan, so I can't give you a fair opinion on how it would look in your room. I personally find that the chip looks sort of dull when I hold it up to the red -- but then, I tend to lean towards more vibrant colours, so that may not be a fair assessment.

its funny you should say that about the lamp....i had just said to DH today, the lamp needs to go or i need to get a different shade, do you think a taller floor lamp would look better? As for the picture its about 9 1/2 inches above the sofa, i wanted to drop it down about another two inches but DH is afraid the kids may accidently hit it and come down on top of them....but that i may still get my own way on yet lol...its not like they bop around like rabbits in there, but he thinks if they were to just stretch their arm up it will fall on someone...LOL

princess....the girl at the store helped me pick some warm tones today from the store, but now that i have them at home, im not impressed with any of them, they look drab and almost baby poop like...:puke: i must have a color that shows bright, clean and neautral or i will want it repainted in a week and they will not sit well with DH....so i must find a warm color that gives me that feel, i was just admireing the manchester tan that lila used in her living room, it looks so clean and fresh..............and regardless of the color i chose i certainly do want to do what decor guy posted, leaving the bottom half of the eating area in a lighter tone

Boy it takes a long time to read through posts after being away for a couple of days. Decorguy was going exactly were I was thinking. The split colours in the dining area look great. It ties together well. I think it was showing a charcoal brown and creams. A couple of little things. I would have your picture about two inches lower and a slightly larger lamp shade. Otherwise is looking great. Give kitty a scratch or two under the chin for me.

thank you for the mock ups....im now observing the red curtains in the daylight and im really liking them...its as close as im going to get to the famous raspberry truffle wall lol however it has added a real nice punch in the room...i would agree much more than the green...the color in real life reminds me of your wall color....i have picked up some other paint chips today...i just need to hang them to see how they look in the room
debbie travis.....wovan sisal
silky bamboo

and cil (glidden)...naturally calm
sable sands

not sure if you are familier with these colors, the girl at the store helped me pick them out...we matched them with the brown of my sofa and a red paint chip...they are pretty neutral...so i will get them hung up so i can decide..lol we got the basement decluttered today so i feel all that is left is for the living area to be painted lol...
thanks smoodgie

Oooh, I like the red curtains!! The red works much better in your room than the green, I think. And the cushion looks good too :)

As promised, some mock-ups for you.....

thank you so much.....now if i can just get the paint color and accesories right, i will be on my way lol....i must admit i do like the ottomon, it seems so square and big compared to my other one....but the kids think its pretty cool lol and for 99 bucks i really cant complain

The new furiture looks fantastic - and you were going on a week ago about not being able to get it just right -well all I can say is WOW. I'm jealous of your ottoman in Oakville the advertisement says $149 and still can't persuade the DH.

wow is that my dining room, i cant believe the difference the paint makes...it looks absolutely stunning...........thank you so much, i will be showing hubby these mock ups, maybe he will become just as excited about getting onto the painting.....i was posting the same time as you to show red curtains and a striped pillow i picked up tonight....just to see how red would look with the brown..............oh my picking a color is going to be so hard, there are so many mock ups that you all have done that i like

Janet, I posted those mock ups but never gave an opinion so here it is. Below is the colour I like because I think it ties in better to the dining room. I suggested painting the top half a darker colour and keeping the bottom light. You can even keep the window wall the colour it is because I forget how it ties into the kitchen. If there is a defined spilt of the rooms you could paint the window wall as well. I like the thought of accenting the room with pillows and drapes in a slate blue (maybe dupioni drapes) and add a mix of textured creme coloured pillows. Heres an idea of that look
