Hi!! karen W I read your post about "Instructions for make Roman Shades".
I was looking for the same thing because I want to make by myself.
I have never used a sewing machine but I want to start doing something.
I have a questions for you
Did you make the Roman shades?
If you made it I would like to know how easy or difficult it was.
Thanks
I appreciate your ideas
Yoli

It looks very nice!!!
I remembered an easy kitchen curtain project from a past H and H issue (oct 2001) that I thought might be an alternative to making Roman blinds. I am considering making this type of curtain for my kitchen.
There aren't directions for this project but I think it is quite easy to figure out by just looking at pic. I think they are neat because they are reversible.
I will be difficult to see in the pic but those are grommets at they top and bottom corners of fabric panels. They are attached to wall with small cup hooks.
I am very impatient too. I was reading how to make it i think is very difficult.
I am going to wait to thinkg about it. Maybe I put other kind of courtains.

there are also directions on this site under workshops - sewing. I've also made my own romans & if you have the patience you should be able to do it; I didn't find it super easy but I'm a very impatient sewer & don't follow patterns very well! It was very cost effective though, good luck!
Wow, I made a contrast lined roman blind, contrast lined button up blind and a table runner for my sister for $20. Thanks for the quote. It helps me figure out what I should be charging when I go into business (and it won't be nearly that much!).
Yoli - post on your progress - I'm off to get the material today!
for give me some ideas.
I am going to try do it by myself.
Thanks again

I did make the roman shades for my master bedroom. They were quite easy too! I have done a lot of sewing so that helped me. I used an ultrasuede fabic lined with "dim-out" liner. Because my fabric had some weight to it I didn't need to use "black-out" liner. I like things looking very crisp and structured, so for my romans I put in thin wooden dowels to keep the folds sharp. Rather than running the dowels along the back of the curtain I sewed mine so they are on the front of the blind. I thought it gave it a more architectural look.
Good luck with your blinds, they are worth making. I had an estimate for $1700 to do the 4 windows in my MBr. Mine cost me $200 + my time.
here's another link to making your own roman blinds...have fun :)

I just had a rough quote from Chintz to make and install a roman blind in my kitchen - $1,000! Think I'll be able to make it for much less!
Here is a web-site for instructions, however it is UK based.
