Homesense

Well, never been there... I know, I know, but have you any idea how hard it is to convince a busy DH to drive me around ? :)

So I was wondering if you guys have seen there any furniture - like desks or occasional chairs ? Any sense in checking Homesense ? ;)

Thanks !

You have a huge Winners at College Park. Go in there and take a peak. Winners in Windsor had a lovely leather bound desk for $199.00. What a steal, although it was a little rugged in the leg, but it was pretty nice for the $$.

By the way, the style of desk you posted, you just may find at a second hand shop. These student desks were made of maple and popular in the 70's.

Also may find something in the paper.

Have you thought about going to an auction? I have a girlfriend who picks up beautiful antique furniture at auctions regularily (she collects them). You might just find the perfect desk! You could do a Google search for auctions in your area, the aution sites often list the contents of the sale close to the sale date.

Thank you Foxxy, but would not want any hutch and some storage in the drawers. Here's a perfect example.

I do not know what style you prefer but this one is at Sears. They deliver to you home for a fee or to the nearest catalogue store free.
It also comes in brown...it is pine.

Thank you, that's a good idea, I checked their website and saw one desk I would like. It's a bit expensive even on sale at 900, but will see it and might like it that much :).

If the store it's out of subway line - ie, far from of my reach :), I have to be pretty quick in shopping... so would not afford to go check Homesense regularly. I would say something around $600-$700 would be okay... but I am yet to see any classic wood desk, nevermind colonial, at that price.

Thank you for the info, I will go check and who knows, I might find it :).

Not sure if I was clear in the last post or if you know how Homesense works but they don't have a stable inventory. Items come and go and you may never see another like it again. That's why the cardinal rules of Homsense shopping are:

1) If you like something, for gods sake, put it on HOLD!

2) Go regularly!

I saw these beautiful lamps one day, stunning, $35 each, there were two sets, thought I would come back the next day, they were gone! sigh...but I digress...

a colonial style desk at Homesense to be in the $1100 range. Too much for me, maybe ok for someone else. It would probably be huge too (their pieces always have great scale) and probably beautiful, elaborate and different. Thing with Homesense is they don't always have the same merchandise. Maybe one day you'll see a desk and it will be gone next week. Or you will wait for the price to drop and someone will pick it up the minute the price goes down. The trick with Homesense is to go regularly! You find the best deals that way. Some particular fanatics (like myself) will even know when the best time of day to shop at a particular Homesense! Trust me, you'll get all the markdowns ...or sometimes its just blind luck!

the furniture would be, Jalan ?

I am looking for a nice desk with a colonial/tropical feel... did not see many and whatever I saw was 1600-1800 for something not really close to what I wanted.

ie. large case goods are very expensive at Homesense in my opinion. Occasionaly you MIGHT find a fabulous deal (saw a great priced bed the other day!). Great for assessories, linens, not great for larger items
