for your responses. I have been looking at the style at home and just may subscribe to it. Want to keep the magazine canadian because it sometimes tells you where in canada I can put certain decors.
Another question is where on the web would a person go to see certain home inspirations. Like great rooms and kitchens photos. Thanks in advance.

I'm with you on the specialty mags. At least the DIY mags deal with more average sized and types of homes (really I can't imagine a mansion getting much DIY so no fear of that size rooms). I've listed my complaints a number of times. I no longer have any subscriptions although one I might try is Style at Home because I think I pick up enough of those through the year to pay the subscription. Generally I am so disallusioned with decor mags I don't even stop to look anymore.
Maybe a trip to one of the stores that has mags you don't see everywhere will reveal something new or different that appeals.
Somewhere I saw/read Lynda say that the Gretzky issue was their biggest seller ever. H&H must know what they're doing with specializing with the large houses. If they're making money and it caters to a high end crowd we can't fault them. I just can't relate. I do still get it as a subscription - that keeps the cost down and there are always enough things to compensate for the things I can't relate to. I also get S@H. I'm not fond of BH&G - too frilly and busy for my taste. My latest favourites are the "100 small reno ideas" type of mags that come out on a periodic basis.
My favourite magazine is Livingetc. It's from the UK, but you can buy it at Chapters. It does feature some OTT homes, but I have yet to see an article in Livingetc on an 11,000 sq ft summer cottage  There are a lot of design ideas for small spaces -- not that all the houses featured are necessarily small, but a lot of the homes featured have small footprints (probably because the majority of homes featured are in Europe, where houses are often skinny and tall). Also, the homes featured are not always "magazine perfect" -- the rooms actually have plugs showing and a stack of stuff on a table and a phone on the counter  ;)
I decided to renew my subscription to Style At Home. I figured it was worth it at $29.95 for 2 years. I can't handle H&H anymore -- the Wayne & Janet Gretzky issue pushed me over the edge, and then that article on the 11,000 sq ft cottage really did me in!!
I don't buy any I can read tham at work free so that is better. I think that most here have expressed that they are not renewing subscriptions as they could pick them up faster at the store. Good luck finding one that caters to the regular everyday home that anyoone can afford mostly are way to expensive but I think they are meant more for getting ideas than trying to copy. It might be worth your while to check them out at your local library and see which suit you better.
I have yet to find 1 magazine that satisfies everything that i want. When i pick up a small space issue or small home house plans - i'm gobsmacked that 1200 square feet is considered small.
I like minimal, since I move a lot i've had it with packing & moving stuff i don't use. I tend to cut out pictures from mags of things I like, to keep for one day when I have a house again.
Everyone has different tastes so i guess mags have to catter to everyone. But really, I don't know anyone who have homes that big. Must be hanging around the peons of the country.
I like Better Homes and Gardens too, and also Country Home and Country Living. Obviously, my taste isn't modern. But these mags have great ideas....I LOVE the "Home of the Year" homes that are featured in Country Living. Definitely not over the top. Understated and yes...almost affordable homes. hehe

I know it's sickening!!!!!! There's only a small percentage that have homes like that but that's all they seem to focus on!! Better homes and gardens is a bit more down-to-earth mag with some great ideas.....good hunting..when u find one let me know too! :biglol:
