How do you Start Spring Cleaning

LASS's picture

Finally, focused on home and have started my spring cleaning. However, my start was to empty my towel drawer and to purchase new ones. Am washing my old tea towels and will distribute (rags, etc). It is amazing how such a small thing can make you feel better. Bath Towels and Closets next. Hope the weather turns and I can be outside planting next week and can leave the rest of the spring cleaning until next year. LOL

Yes, I started out with the old Windex (streaky) and ended up using soap and than (Jan in A Van) buffing with a micro cloth. Thank you. Works well and no streaks.

I think I lied, our upstairs windows are not sliders. Now washing white cotten curtains and duvet. Spare room will be finished and done today. Also a touch up of paint on windows. You can tell I am trying to avoid spring cleaning :hurl: and am now checking out the computer.

Picking up flowers tomorrow. (I need to get a life)

Yes, one room at a time. And if they are a big job, only one per day.

Get ruthless. If you are wondering if you should keep something put it in a box of uncertain things, take it to the garage and if you don't need the things in a week or so get rid of them. The less you have the easier it is to clean and keep clean.

As for those hideous windows I know what you're talking about. So heavy and awkward. Use vinegar and water and MICROFIBRE CLOTHES. Nothing worse than cleaning those sliders and finding streaks afterwards. Start a savings account just to replace those horrid windows.

btw, I also read recently that you should put in a little dishwasher soap and then buff with the microfibre. I know the detergent would help cut the dirt but you also have to do a rinse too imo.

Or...you can have your mom house-sit while you go on vacation and when you come home...poof...your Spring Cleaning is done!!! :bliss:

Yes...this is what my dear Mom did and boy, do we appreciate it!! She came to look after our dog and tackled this during her stay :)

Seriously though...as Reginagirl said, focus on 1 room at a time and go through everything. Our Master bedroom and home office weren't done, so that's on the agenda for the next couple of weeks. WIll have garbage bags in hand ;)

One room at a time. BUT The one thing, I postively hate doing is windows. I can paint, clean etc but windows ***##@@!!!!. They are never clean, streaky and they are the old sliders and definately hard to get out. Must get an estimate on spring cleaning LOL!!! Great Mother's Day, Birthday or Christmas Gift!!

(Also, I have noted that my guest towels are great and the ones in our bathroom on display are great but I use the same ratty ones all the time. Time to invest in myself) Does this sound like whining??

I start with getting rid of things I don't use on a regular basis. Anything that is worn or wobbly such as kitchen utensils chuck them out and get new or decide if I really need them. I would rather have a few good pieces than a drawer full of things I only use once in a while. Then I do the same with linen closets keep 2 maybe 3 sets of linen for each room. I keep 2 sets of towels for each bedroom one set for everyday for the baths then each bedroom has its own towels for when guests come. I check to make sure they are still in great shape and put them in the guest rooms. Pantry gets a good going through and any food that has been in there to long gets tossed. I had 2 of my sons home this weekend and they went through their treasures that I had saved and anything they don't want will be tossed, we are donating all their hockey trophies to Minor hockey and there are over 300 so I'll be glad to get them out of here we will save some of the really special ones but most will go.
