Wow. I hope this doesn't come across as sounding conceited, but I just can't believe how beautiful my hydrangeas are!!!! It's been a long experiment trying to grow them, and I'm just so ecstatic that they're blooming and look so healthy!!

I'll post more pictures in my album, but here are a few for anyone who loves hydrangeas as much as I do!!

It's great that you have at least one perfect bloom!! :) I don't know if it's better to snip off a bloom when it's at its peak to dry and enjoy all year, or to leave the bloom on the plant -- the colour is definitely richer and more vibrant when the flower is on the plant.

I think you can get different colour blooms on one plant. It probably depends on the distribution of the aluminium sulphate. Some of my pink blooms have purple/blue on them, and some of my blue blooms have pink on them. I haven't been consistent with the AS (just 2 applications so far this summer), but I actually like the variations in colour :)

I was away for three days, and my hydrangeas are even more colourful and beautiful now than when I took those pics on Saturday!! I'm just amazed by them!!!!

Nitefall, I'm not sure what species of hydrangeas these are. My guess is that they're Nikko Blue hydrangeas. I actually bought them in March of 2003 as indoor plants. I planted them outside in June, and then covered them up over the winter to give them some protection -- I'd been told by more than one gardening person that the blue & pink hydrangeas don't grow in my zone (4 or 5, can't remember which). I'm happy to have proven all the experts wrong!!

I planted two plants next to each other -- the pinker flowers are probably all on one plant and the bluer ones on the other. But it looks like one big plants with all different colours, which is cool :)

Conceit is not thy name!! They're sooooo beautiful they almost look like they're not real!! Maybe you can dry some of them to keep them for the winter. Anyhoo thanks for the treat.

These are my absolute favourites!!!! I wish I could have these blooms in my garden 365 days a year!!!! Just the thought that they won't last forever makes me so sad..... but I'm going to enjoy them for as long as they last!!!! I think I might try to create some sort of art work out of my favourite pics.
