Good for him! Mind you, he may not be selected for a jury (which is a good thing), so he could just be delaying the inevitable for a week or so.
The mood in my office is at an all time low right now, and I know that this move isn't going to improve the situation. People are really unhappy - lot of job security issues, communication issues, etc. It's not good.
My dh mentioned last night that he has heard the date has been pushed back to December at which point he is going on Jury duty.
Cycling is probably a great option, but until companies provide showers and changing facilities, I don't think it's all that workable for many of us. Believe me, I don't want to deal with clients after biking an hour or 2 to work ............ and I'm sure they'd just as soon not deal with me either!
we lived inToronto by Casa Loma, I worked out at kennedy & 401. I hated taking the bus/subway/bus. I was not going to pay for parking or get stuck on the freeway. During the summer I biked to work. Sometimes my hubby would pick me up after work so I didn't have to bike the hour trip home. I was in great shape and loved seeing the lovely houses in the back streets.
Eventually I got a job downtown and still biked to work. I think everyone should try biking in traffic just so both drivers & cyclists know what idiots each other are.
Now we live in no where land NS. Live in the country & I can still bike to work. 12 km but no stop lights. it's not for everyone but if you are close enough to work, try cycling. Takes a while getting the old legs going but you feel really great!
Like everything else with that company, those who are directly affected rarely get the news. The grapevine says November 15. I was up there yesterday and we're moving into the new building which is apparently 99% completed. I left my house at 8 AM and it took me over an hour to get there. I live just east of the DVP at the very bottom of Parkway, so it's a direct route up there - just very very slow. There are very few of us at 1 Toronto, but I know there are lot more at 4 King.
In Montreal, they centralized all of their employees in a downtown location. But as I said, don't get me started!
Yep it's the 4 King one all right. He has to go for a meeting at the new location next Wed so we will have to rent a car for the day. Do you know when the exact moving day is - the news hasn't trickled down to me yet. I need our car for work - it's a '99 with 215,000 km (yikes) so it almost needs replacing as well but I just hate spending money on cars. We are considering something very fuel efficient like a hybrid for our second car.
Yes, we do. I'm at 1 Toronto (across from the King Eddy), but there are others located at 4 King Street. I wonder if it's the same company. It's 3 letters and begins with C and ends with I. But don't get me started on that place!
We have 2 cars, but one is a 91 with 260K km on it. I doubt it will pass inspection next time around.
thanks for the coffee tip...i'll be sure to check it out...can you believe there are so many streets like that...how the h**l are you supposed to get anywhere....takes you twice as long cuz you have to go around everything and then end up pretty much back where you started... :D
SusanB, that is too wierd that the company you are working for is moving to Markham in November as my DH's company is doing the same. We are going to have to buy a second car to celebrate (unfortunately). Does your company presently have office space on King Street per chance?
haha that's the same as me. the last time i lived here i was a student then poor employed person with no car. this is the first time i've lived in toronto with a car. i knew the streets as a pedestrian no problem. then i figured out that there are all these annoying streets where you can make left turns, are one way, etc. annoying!
next time you go to your doctor's, walk down st. clair, just west of yonge and go to lettieri's. i love their coffee and paninis!
well, your doctor beats mine agewise. mine is younger than me!
thanks stylegirl...will do next time.,.he's been doc since i was born.,.heck he delivered me...lol...i was also thinking that the next time instead of taking the parking lot just to hop onto the 401 and get off a bayview to eglington to mt. pleasant...and so on...lol...funny thing is that until i moved up here...i couldn't tell you how to get there by car...subway...no problemo...lol...but that extra large Euroblend from Timothy's helped me on my way home...lol
oh ya...and even tho' i live on a major highway...traffic up here is 10 cars in a row on a friday of a long weekend...lol
jen jen - next time hop onto don mills or bayview once you hit sheppard. it's wayyyyy more reliable and fast.
my doctor is at yonge & davisville - what a small world!
hubby complains that it takes him 10 to 15 mins to get straight across our little city in the traffic, i just remind him that he is lucky he isnt driving in T.O....
smiles
janetc
the one thing about T.O I will not miss!
I live right in the city (south Riverdale) and for 29 years, I've basically worked right in the city. I've had the odd assignment out in the burbs, but most of the time, I've worked downtown. I love the city, and can't imagine living in the suburbs . So what does my company do? They've decided to centralize all their Toronto employees in Markham, of all places. So unless I'm working with a client downtown, I guess I'll be joining the rest of the people on the parking lot. I'm ticked, to put it mildly - gas prices are out of sight, and I could walk to work in 40 minutes. Come November, that's all over.
I'm going up there tomorrow for a meeting - not looking forward to it.
