I was at Costco yesterday and they had some microfiber throws $5 off ($19.99).they are called 'down alternative' and have a quilted look and are sort of fuzzy on one side (but very short fuzzy like flannel). I decided to try one since my down throw I use on the sofa is tired. they're 54" X 78" so not a blanket but bigger than a lot of throws I've seen.
Anyway, I thought I would tell you, it's way warmer than my down throw or any blanket I've ever tried. I put it to the test last night and threw it on top of my bed and cut the thermostat to 13 (normally I go about 16 and am sometimes a little cold especially while waiting for my down duvet to warm up but this got me warm right away) . As per usual, my window was open a bit and I was completely toasty to the point of a bit too warm..
The nice part is it's also thinner than my down throw and very lightweight. I was thinking my mom would have liked it because she didn't like extra weight but was always cold. It would be really good for extra cold nights or keeping the thermostat down. It's also machine wash and dry and so far I've found my microfiber stuff really takes all the dog can dish out and still looks new.
Anyway, they are on sale this week and come in a lot of colours. I saw cream, black, grey, dark blue, rusty red, camel, lime green. One lady said they also had bright orange but I didn't see one although I Left her pulling the piles apart to find one.

I was at Costco yesterday too, and I also saw them, I didn't get one , but there was one lady there getting 3 of them, she told me she got one last week and she just loves it, so she came back to Costco to get 3 more for Christmas gifts, they're selling pretty fast here.
Well maybe if you got him one you could have it cooler in the room for you. I would go crazy if it was too warm at night.

I so wish I could convince my husband to sleep like you have described. In my single days that is exactly how I use to keep my apartment. Since it needs to be "toasty warm" I won't be needing one of those blankets - although it sounds fabulous!
