If you really like lily of the valley

but you are afraid of it spreading, keep some in a pot. This poor neglected thing has been in a pot against the house getting morning sun with shade that comes only after the sun moves past the planter next to it, and it has done ok in this situation. There have been talks about LOV and its evasive nature, but this works for me.

I think I'll re&re it, so I can bring the soil level up some in this pot. I think it's in its 4th year now, and I'm still waiting for it to outgrow this pot!

I love those! I also heard that if you plant them in the containers that they come in that they will keep growing year after year with out spreading. Now, if that is true I am not sure..

in a pot, too - after seeing it taking over my mother's garden lol

they are super plants for bad locations (and they smell good too). I've had them in a couple of yards and they do spread but I found the weed wacker and mower pretty much kept them in line.

I guess I meant remove and repot, but in the same pot since it still isn't overcrowded. The dirt has settled and compacted in the years, so I figure I should break it up a little, gently, and add some fresh soil too..

Freshening up the soil in containers every once in a while is a good idea. I don't totally replace all the soil in my planters each year, but some people do.

I don't think I've ever seen a Lily of the Valley before - the foilage is quite pretty!
