Install crown moulding is great for most style of the house (except those very contemporary designs using many glasses and metal material).

Install crown moulding is also practically useful in building construction/home renovation, save time and work. It eliminates the need to tape and finish wall/ceiling joints; It can also be used to conceal surface wiring or indirect lighting installations, like you are easier to add pot light in your finished ceiling.

The installation is well within the capacity of most DIY. Get the right material and tools are important.

You should choose the plaster crown moulding. Because it has many advantage over other material like MDF, polyurethane, wood crown moulding.

First, you are easily fixed and repair any imperfection of the installation; even the gap is quite big. You can fill all gaps/joints use just plaster powder/dry wall joint compound (the same material of moulding) without any trace. Only plaster moulding can do. This is very important for the DIY, as it gives great confidence to the installer.

Second, Plaster moulding has best stable quality, almost non-shrinkage and warp; they won’t expand and contract follows the temperature change to leave some ugly gap in their joints. They are fireproof, mold and worm resistant, moisture proof, and sound and heat insulated. It will not produce toxic fumes. It can be processed by saw, cut, drill, file, sand, plane, scrape, etc like wood but softer, can be glued or/and fastened.

Third, they’re art, produce by hand; they are able to show out the sharp and clear pattern with good three-dimension effect.

Four, plaster molding are make from Gypsum (CaSO4), the common minerals. Similar to the material use for dry wall, it is more environmental friendly to use than that wood, MDF, polyurethane those come from forest and petroleum.

That’s why most of the custom builds big house use plaster crown moulding.

Sounds good, but how are the cost, availability and level of difficulty for install/handling?

Actually, they’re the cheapest and easiest crown moulding people can install by themselves.

Really?

Let’s talk next time.
