Hi there, can you install a new tub surround over the tile that is already there? We have an older bathroom and want to update the shower enclosure (tub surround) but want to avoid having to remove all the old tiles, repair the walls etc...
If so, do any of you have any tips or advice?
Thx.

I'm sure it can be done as well, but you want to be 100 per cent sure that there are no areas where water has penetrated the wall. Capping it would be a real danger for mould.
It probably depends on the surround. I'm sure you can glue to the tiles if they are solid, no problem there but the problem could be later. I had a house with the typical surround from sears or where ever, the more flexible plastic type and after a while you could see where the glue was as the plastic sort of settled against the wall so seeing the outline of tiles under would really drive me nuts. The harder acrylic type may not have that issue as it's pretty solid stuff. I'm also pretty sure places like Bath-fitters install right over old tile so it is possible. You just need a really rigid material and some good adhesive.
