installing a pocket door

Hi. I was wondering if anyone can tell me how difficult it is to install a pocket door. One of our normal exsisting doors swings in a narrow hallway making it inefficient, unsightly, and especially dangerous for our 2 year old that is running though the hallway repeatedly. I have seen the pocket door kits in the home building stores. Is this the best route to go? Thanks in advance!

Thank you for all your info. I will consider everything. The area beside where our regular door is now is all open. I removed a closet that had sliding doors that ran right to ceiling. The problem will be that we do have a laundry chute that ran down through that old closet but it is set back about 5 inches but that probably isn't enough depth to get all the mechanisms for the pocket door in front of it and drywall it in. I will have to investigate the depth of these kits to see what can be done. Thanks so much for all your help!
