Sorry, didn't mean to keep you hanging so long -- man, it's been a BUSY day!!!!
OK, so here are my honest and candid thoughts on the concert and INXS in general......... JD isn't a good fit, and the concert was, well, kind of boring. But that could partly be because Ottawa concert crowds tend to suck -- a real lack of enthusiasm sometimes. Although somebody I was at the concert with said she thought it was a fantastic show. Guess if you think JD is a babe (which I don't), it was a good show ;)
They played good songs -- most of their bigger hits, an oldie, and a bunch from their new CD. I don't have the new CD, but I did like all the songs from it. Really, there weren't any songs that I didn't like. LOVE Kick, and actually jumped up and down when they played it, which I don't usually do!! But that's all they did -- play songs. There was no real interaction with the audience. JD did and said the typical lead signer type things -- great city, great audience, love you all, blah, blah, blah. I couldn't decide whether or not he got increasingly drunk through the course of the show. He didn't really interact with the other band members much, and none of them said anything throughout the entire show -- didn't hear one sexy Aussie accent all night :( At one point, JD tossed his mic stand into the crowd. Not sure if was by mistake or on purpose, but either way, that could have hurt somebody. And he sprayed the audience with a bottle of water. He pulled out the F word more then a few times, and was just really not all the endearing overall.
As for JD as lead singer for INXS -- he has a good voice, and he did a good job singing all the old INXS songs. But he just doesn't seem to mesh with the rest of the band. I don't know if it's because he's younger than them, because he replaced Michael Hutchence, or what. For me, I think it could be because he seems to be in charge of the band, even though the other band members have been together for years.
If INXS really wanted to renew themselves and get a fresh sound, they should have gone with Suzie (for those of you who are familiar with Rockstar: INXS). She would have been a definite breath of fresh air -- maybe some of the songs would have had to be re-worded to be sung by a girl, but I think she would have fit in better. Sort of like the little sister, if that makes any sense.
And that's my humble little review :)
on Thursday Night in Montreal. But I have not spoken to her about it. So I do not know how she found it.
Ok I am dying to see what you thought?????? :D
Ok Smoodgie ..give it up what did I miss last night ..I almost went..!!! :D
Funny you should mention Great Big Sea...they only play here once or possibly twice a year!! And everytime...you need a letter from the lord to get tickets...CRAZY!!
I know, I did that on purpose so I wouldn't sway opinions ;) I'll let you know what I thought soon!!
You may not get a lot of big bands coming to Newfoundland, but I bet Great Big Sea plays there a lot!!
Hey Smoodgie, haven't seen them (you know I live in NL...we don't really get "big" bands round these parts.. ) so, I don't have an opinion of them for ya...I am curious to know what you thought tho. You failed to mention that in your post.
:) Mel
