Kitchen sink

Reno has hit first snag. The 30" sink we picked out will not actually fit into our 30" sink cabinet. I have always liked a big double sink, but then I haven't had a dishwasher in 10 years, so the double sink was needed. What does everyone else have for a kitchen sink? Is the "1 1/2 bowl" sink usable? Help!!

Here are some opinions on sinks.

are availbable. We almost had to buy one before revisng our kitchen plan. Home Hardware carried a double sink that was just slightly smaller - 27 - 28" if I recall correctly. I wouldn't go with a single sink. That's all I had when we were in the hotel for 4 months. No matter how carefully I tried to plan ahead there would always be something else that needed emptying as soon as I got the sink full of water. Even now I may have a few dirty things in one side of the sink so I use the other to wash off vegetables, etc.

My sink is 8inches deep but it is undermount so that gives me nearly 2 more inches and it sure make a difference. i also have a spout that is curved up and gives me enough clearance to put a large pasta pot under it.

cutting out some cabinet, but we can only do it on one side as there is a drawer on the left side of the sink cabinet, so the sink wouldn't be centred on the sink cabinet and look off. (I have lived with only 3 drawers for the last 4 years and I refused to even consider losing one of my new ones.)

Found a 1&1/2 sink I can live with but now it looks like there aren't any in Western Canada because apparently I do the dishes backwards (right to left, not left to right) Hopefully this will all be settled before the end of the day.

You may be able to cut out the cabinet wall underneath to accomodate the bowl of your sink. I have had to do this for clients. It isn' a big deal if your contractor will do it and there is room on the ouside of the cabinets. I am assuming that this is not an end cabinet.

I think sinks range from about 5" to something like 14" deep depending on the style etc. You could check some sink companies like http://www.blancocanada.com/ to see what the ranges are. I think it's when you have a big soup pot and a fixed faucet that you begin to realize size matters sometimes with sinks.

i do have double sinks and no dishwasher, so its real handy for me as i will wash and have the water running in the other sink to rinse.

I gave no use for double sinks, it would collect stuff. or the 1 .5 sink. I have an 8" deep single and like it. With a dishwasher I would not use any more than one large sink. :)

is "really deep"? Most sinks seems to be about 8" deep. Jeep, how deep is yours?

I love my sink and half I got one that is really deep and I think that was the best and most important decision on the sink size. I too have found that the quality of the stainless is not s good as my old one this one scratches and my old didn't. If you don't have room to put the 1 1/2 sink go for a single but deep they make life so much easier.

double sinks don't serve much of a purpose other than to give me extra space to clutter up and then you have to clean it too (I hate cleaning). If you have a dishwasher, there really isn't a huge need for large sinks unless you have some special thing you do.

What does drive me nuts with sinks is when they are too shallow and I noticed in the new house I had, that the quality they used was awful. It was scratched in no time compared to my other old house where the stainless always looked new. So I think price/quality is really important. Also it seems the tap makes a big difference (I really like being able to pull my spout thing out and spray where I want or to fill taller pots etc.), so if you consider what you are typically doing, how much you need to spend, I think you can live quite nicely without a large double sink.

We have one and I like it a lot. Mind you, the full sink part of it is quite large. The 1/2 is very small, and we do it for washing vegetables, etc.

Ours is some sort of composite material. It's great - if it gets stained, we just use a little bleach and soak it. We also have an insert that fits in the bottom of it, sits about 1 1/2 inches off the bottom, so when we put something in the sink, it doesn't actually sit on the bottom. There's also an insert for the little 1/2 as well, but it's more like a vegetable strainer thing.

Anyway, we recently replaced our countertop (removed the laminate and tiled it), and decided to keep the old sink. It's perfect as far as I'm concerned!

one and a half sink. I like it and because I do not have very much counter area and it minimizes space. I think if I were to replace it, I would go with one large sink though.

i had a 1 & 1/2 sink...i hated it...the tap wan't long enough to begin with...it was a fiberglass one...everything stained it...it never looked clean...i couldn't wait to replace it...lol...i went back to the standard plain jane stainless steel double sink...not fancy at all...a whole whopping $99 from Home Depot...i may change it to something different when i get my granite counter tops...but to what i don't know...i haven't seen anything that tickles my fancy...lol
