This is my first post, but I've spent the last day lurking and reading. So far I'm super impressed with the help you are able to provide.
I'm hoping you may be able to help me figure out what to plant in my front yard. I can try and post a picture later but basically it's a plain bungalow-style home with a large, grassy front yard and a garden bed running along the front of the house. What do you plant in the front of the house. It's a south-exposed yard and gets plenty of sun. Right now there's just two Rhodo's and I'm not impressed with them.
If you have any inspiration or inspiration pictures please post them - I'd love any help I can get!

I love the contemporary feel to your house. I agree with anrol that you need to get that front door exposed at all cost. I am not sure what role those windows play in letting in light to the house but I would focus on the stone wall on your house as the backdrop for your shrubs and use this space for a variety of "levels" of shrubs. With a sunny exposure you have a lot of opportunities. Your house screams contemporary to me.....;) not sure if that is your style but I would see you using a variety of ornamental grasses in that area. They are tolerant to dry conditions, they do need good drainage and they can actually deal with so-so soil. You can change heights by building up your bed with lesser or more soil.
What style are you hoping for and are you a gardener. I woud love to see a photo of what you have removed.
Hi Matoke! Welcome! I would love to see your front door a welcoming colour. I really like the flagstone on the house. Maybe you could do an area around the front entry to the driveway with flagstone. Could you post a pic with the shrubbery that you have removed? There are people with a lot of great ideas here and it might help to see the front entry with bushes removed. Maybe a pic at a different angle? I think you are on the right track removing some of the bushes to expose the front entry. I tried this with what you had ------
Thanks guys! Love the pics.
I'm still figuring out my way around these boards but I'll try and post a picture and maybe that will help more.
Here's our front yard. We've removed a lot of the plants and shrubbery (some were diseased & overgrown and the big plum tree was doing a number on our driveway so we had to take it down a few weeks ago).
Any thoughts (and be honest, I know it's a quite a 1970's bungulow! haha!)

If you attach a photo of your present yard it will help members give you advice. Perhaps that is a problem for you if you are living under a lot of snow at present....I know I am.
Anyway, here are a few inspiration pics that might help. I think it is important to have a plan for what you hope to see ultimately and then break it down into manageable chunks. You have to remember too that it takes time for your garden to achieve its full potential.
What look do you want? A few beds, english country look, low maintenance.....
