A lazy day observation

Well I must be bored today, so I will share my latest dazzling observation. Eb had a bath the other day so I was trying to take a picture of her nice shiny black coat(before it goes dusty again). As per usual she was having none of it and I got a lot of dark blurs. Meanwhile on one of the efforts I noticed the camera caught her shedding.

Now I've seen hair fly off when brushed or stroked but I just never realized how much hair was coming off while she is just sitting there doing nothing. Even while I took the picture and after I just can't see the hair the camera caught. If you look, you can see the stuff floating away from her, at least a dozen hairs in that moment. It kind of surprised me.

A Pom and a Newf? That must be quite a pairing when they play together. What would that be...140 lb vs 4 lb? I think they make an industrial sized ferminator which might help with the Newf.

I just bought the furminator for my pomeranian. It worked wonders. I've been using it for 2 weeks now and I think that my new area rug is shedding waay more than the dog. I can brush him now with a normal brush and get nothing. Of course once spring hits it will be a headache again!

I won't even get started on our Newfoundland.

Too funny I am taking fish oil for my skin

Yes, fish oil is a very good thing. Eb gets salmon a few times a week and used to get a salmon oil or cod liver oil capsule. since her skin went dusty I tried a more concentrated oil and then her vet put her on an even more concentrated one. Now that I had her thyroid tests done it seems some of it is due to her being a bit hypothyroid. I can't say I've noticed any difference with the amount of furbunnies but for sure eating enough good fat does wonderful things for the skin and hair, dog or human.

I dont know if it helps but we give our pekingese a cod liver oil pill every morning and her shedding has pretty much stopped. She has skin allergies and this has made a huge difference , especially over the winter months. It worked so well on her that both my husband and I take them and dry skin isnt an issue anymore.

Ebony is one of the few dogs the Freminator doesn't make much difference with. I tried it about this time last year and got nothing off her. Funny part with her (and these photos) is that my last dog was part Sheepdog and I could get a lot of fur off her with her comb but Eb produces nothing much with the comb, the ferminator, or anything else I try. I've also never noticed this stuff in the air before although there is always lots in the vacuum and in floating in corners. I'm starting to think (since the photos) that she just has super fine hairs that are almost invisible until they clump a bit and that maybe I have to look for a really tight comb to be able to pull the loose stuff off her.

BTw, on a whim I tried to vacuum her to see what she would do. She actually didn't seem to mind once I got it going.

DBD,

I have learned to accept that mine sheds. She's my 3rd. The others never shed like her. Even with the Furminator (de-shedding blade), we still have the fur in the corners ... I would hate to picture how much fur there would be without the Furminator!

I am not sure if the Furminator would work on yours, but it may be worth checking out.

I had a day like that back when we had our cat, Cleo. She was a domestic long hair, and although we brushed her to keep her mat-free, there was lots of hair around. Sometimes when she'd get into one of her kooky moods, the kind that take a cat from 0-sixty in the flash of a moment, she'd leave a few tufts on the carpet from where she'd taken off AND a flurry of hair in the air. It was kind of like a Bugs Bunny cartoon from years ago, with a witch that left hairpins flying when she'd take off like a bullet in several scenes.

My dogs would hardly leave a costume on for 5 min. :)

Now imagine having three dogs three times the size of Ebony (plus two cats), and you'll see why our house is full of never-ending furballs!!! It's impossible to get them all with the vacuum -- I think I've cleaned them all up, and then I turn around and there's a furball floating down the hallway.

Weird that fur comes off of them when they aren't even moving.

That is pretty amazing.

No pets, but trying having a daycare. Similar results only with crumbs ;)

Okay, now I am fully disgusted. Still trying to get a good picture of the dog, but look what spewed this time.... there are zillions of them. One full picture and a closer up so you can see.

Somehow I am feeling surrounded by invisible hairs and it's giving me the willies now to see how many there are at any given moment.
