Great pictures, jan in van! I love the idea of doing groupings like that. It has more impact, and it's fun to choose different spots where each one looks best too.
Our little tree has been up for over a week but we haven't been around to enjoy it. When we downsized, as dh and I each had our own favourites over the years I found the easiest way to combine them was to do them separately. I alway liked his white and silver ornaments still in their original Woodwards boxes. These go on the tree. I have my angel collection & special candle that will only get lit once, maybe tonight. I also have my old santas and Frosty collection for the front window. The pink balls are also from dh's collection. No more purchases except maybe some LED's and new silver garland. These are just enough nostalgia for each of us and are now our shared memories.
There is a house very similar about 4 streets over and I just sigh every time I go by it. I will try and get a photo but we have no snow.
where did you get a pic of my house ??? only joking lol I wish it was mine, though, and it looks so cosy . . .
Mel, I LOVE your tree!! Esepcially the purple and LIME green balls :D
hugi, you HAVE to post a pic of your tree!!!! Sentimental trees are just as beautiful as the most spectacularly decorated tree. Even moreso, because of the memories attached :)
We saw the most amazing Christmas decoration at the Zurich airport this morning :) Can't post pics now, but I will eventually :)
OK, now I'm off to bed for the first time since Thursday night!!!
This is my dream house with Christmas decor .
I am a minimalist at heart, but my tree is ALWAYS tacky - worn-out balls from years ago, tinsel that has lost its glitter over the years, angels in tatters and so on and so forth, tree absolutely dripping in lights, ornaments and tinsel - and each and every one of them is a memory from someone or somewhere . .
My motto for the tree is that I do not allow anything tacky in my house, but the Christmas tree HAS to be tacky !
I have not participated in this thread because we are are all grownups in this house, and do not do much special Christmas decorating; we have a small tabletop tree, a centrepiece on the dining-room table and lights round the inside of the two windows that face the street. I have really, really, really enjoyed this thread though and think it should be kept all year long as a sticky (PHIL, OH PHIL, are you listening ???) so we can gather inspiration throughout the year for next year.
I particularly liked Cat's African tree, because of the sentimentality of it, and Mel's REALLY REALLY fake tree, because it shows how she is moving on, making new beginnings and new traditions; not that I didn't enjoy the others, just that these two stand out, for me, emotionally.
Hope you all have a Merry Christmas, a happy New Year;
live long and prosper !
you may not think its as pretty, but it is like you said....the memories are what makes a tree special and it sounds like you have many wonderful ones. Have a wonderful holiday.....

As i write, DH is putting the final decorating on our 30 year old fake tree - with all the decorations from our child, friends' children and ex-students of mine. It is certainly not as pretty as most of the pictures posted here - which are lovely, by the way, but it is full of good memories for us.
Have a safe, joyous Christmas season with all your friends and family - may it be one full of love, laughter and the stuff of good memories for the future for you all. You are a remarkable lot of women, and I :) wish for you the best!
Dawn
How creative with the stipped paper on the wall. I especially like the idea of having the children's pictures in a variety of frames. I may just steal that idea next year because my pictures stay in a drawer for lack of an idea to display them.

White tree is very nice and classy. Great job!
I am also enjoying this post very much. Keep it coming and share!

im sorry i missed your tree, just found it now thanks to Lobotomes post... :D and another reason for a white tree would be our lack of snow, well at least here anyway. Your tree looks beautiful, love the colors you have on it.....oooo a new camera.........thank goodness, we are going to need pics of all your new furniture. :D thanks for sharing Mel

Love your tree, Mel! I've always wanted a white tree too, and one day I hope to get one when I have time to set up more than one tree. It will definitely be a prelit one........no way am I putting light strings on more than one tree!
LobotoMe, I know exactly what you mean about the nutcrackers-for years I never gave them a second look. But last year when my son took a fancy to them, they suddenly had a real charm to them. I did a test run on a craft idea, turning some old-style clothespins into nutcracker tree ornaments, and when it came time to do the faces I was so tempted to put happy smiles on them instead! The scary teeth won out in the end, though. I'll post pictures when the kids have time over the holiday to do theirs.
i agree this thread has been just wonderful and i too am already planning what i want to do next year, i have seen so many beautiful decorations..........but heck you kind of expect it....afterall, we have the best bunch of members that a forum could ask for :) ...........thanks to H&H staff! :clapping:
MERRY XMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!

i've really been enjoying this thread.
all of our trees/decorating is so very different and very beautiful. i'm sure we've all been getting ideas from here, cuz' i certainly have been. everyday this thread gets bigger and bigger and it got me to wondering if this is the longest thread here...perhaps phil could help me out on this one. PHIL...OH...PHIL !!!
i've got a white tree too!!!
yours is so pretty in the green and purple....nice job.
i'm thinking your kitty will be with you soon...you must be pretty excited!!!
Mel, oh so pretty! I want a white tree too!!!
Dawn, you know how clowns scare some people? Well, I must admit, nutcrackers give me the heebee-jeebees. The ones I've see all seem to have evil grins on their faces. Their eyes stare at me and their jaws not only look dangerous, but they are just waiting for me to put my fingers near their mouths and CHOMP!
I'll admire yours from afar (don't see their evil grins in the pics LOL). I will admit they are colourful. I do love the kingdom though :D
First of all..please excuse the terrible quality of this pic..it was taken on a camera phone. But, at least you guys are able to get the overall look of my tree. Figured if I had to have fake....it was just as well to go WAY WAY FAKE!!!! I'll take better pics with a real camera during Xmas..apparently Santa/Mom is buying me a new digital camera to replace the one I left in Newfoundland...Yay me!!!
Thank you for your compliments! I'm not sure if the famliy would agree that I'm fun......kids think of me more as the Evil Ruler of the Kindom and DH, well, he's just plain scared. :D It might be fair to say they tolerate my crazy ideas! DH had a clear note of surprise in his voice when he told me, "You know, it actually looks pretty good". With me having had a glass crew in to partially demo the wall so close to Christmas, I'm sure he didn't think I'd be able to get it looking semi-decent for the holidays.
Janet, you are the queen of super shoppers, and I know you will be able to get a good start on a Nutcracker collection with after-Christmas sales. Also, I have been following your rug tryouts with great interest, as you can see my coffee table is completely lost on that wood floor without one. From the picture I"m surprised we don't bump into it all the time!
Dawn, I'm just loving the Santa hat as your tree topper!!! I think it gives your tree just the right touch.
You've decorated your house with such character! It's telling me that you are light hearted and must be a fun person to be around.
Too too cute!
Dawn, i must say, you have pulled it off real well :clapping: ...........looks fantastic, love the idea of pictures from xmas past............the slippers are a really cute touch...good going..........my mission after xmas is nutcrackers, dh really likes them. I so miss my villages this year, they are buried in storage from the flood. :( oh well there is next year.

My turn!
This year I got extra frames from the dollar store to use with a few I had, and I put some photos of the kids from past Christmas holidays out in the entrance. It was easiest to mix the frame finishes.....would have taken too long if I sweated over perfecting a perfectly co-ordinated look. The sparkly red trees are new, from Michaels.
Next, the LR. For those who missed my mirror wall post, that is candystriped wrapping paper on the wall. I clustered my cone trees and nutcrackers at the fireplace to make my "Nutcracker Kingdom", and I went with a picture of Santa on the wall this year. It seemed a bit bottom-heavy with just the lanterns on the mantle, so I got a berry wreath for colour. Do you like our slippers? :D I got the red ones for DH because I thought they looked Grinchy (he gets real'grinchy at this time of year) and I don't know who the striped ones belong to yet. The tree, leaning into the corner on the right, is finally done!
Lobotome your tree looks great-saw it larger in the link. I believe you that it took 2 days-still trying to finish mine and it's taking forever!
The tree in the dining room came in the planter. I purchased it at Bowring 3 years ago.
Thanks
Karenm your holiday decorating looks great! I hope you were able to get another tinsel tree to make a pair-great find! The black doors are looking great, BTW.
lacroixl you really decked your halls, and it looks fabulous. I've always wanted to do up more than one tree and decorate several rooms as you have, but I never seem to be able to pull it off. Hopefully with time I will be able to do that as beautifully as you have. Well done!
under your tree. It is beautiful as are all your decorations. Your friends and family must all enjoy going to your home.
your home looks fabulous....you must have a blast doing all that decorating....holy, you had the pleasure of decorating 3 trees, i would be in heaven! the tree in the dining room, did that come in the planter or did you do that yourself....very unique idea! thanks for sharing, i enjoyed your pictures.

great pics. i love looking at homes decorated for christmas....and yours looks lovely. i know alot of people who really decorate for the holidays...and i always enjoy it....i don't have the time, energy or cash to go all out...however i can appreciate it....my home is decorate very simply, but i like it that way....saves more time to shake those gifts under the tree.... :biglol: your home looks beautiful !!!
That is one busy house with Christmas decorations. A little over the top for my taste. I would feel like I was in a retail store I think. Lots of time has been spent and if you enjoy it then I guess it is all worth it. :)
