I'm so excited, last year nothing happened and now I have those gorgeous blooms. Planted it along the fence in a shady area. Anyone else has them and know more about?

OK

there is another perennial I love for part shade areas. It is tall 3-4' and covers a large area. It has leaves that are burgandy & green the size of a dinner plate and yellow flowers that grow up spike like. My daughter has it growing beside her pool and it seems to double each year. A very striking contrast of colours. Called: Big-leafed Ligularia.
I think most of the other plants are low growing.
.....when we used to say the T.V's all mine. Lucky you!!! enjoy your time alone, make a nice cup of tea, get some chocolate and visit all of your favorite sites. Stay away from the naughty one though Hehe!!
I'm adding those to my list. No gardening for me today, it's raining! DH just left for Toronto and kids ill be off to work soon - lucky me, the computer all mine!
Funny again. Haha!
I HATE YOU!!!!
you are so funny, just love to read your posts! I tell you a little secret, I manage to kill almost every single house plant, always forget about them and never water. But would you know it, I still have a Poinsettie from Christmas, but this one refuses to die, (maybe have to drum up some spiders!). Here is a pic
I can't look ar your beautiful garden anymore., I get so depressed with mine!!! I plant, feed, water, sing, fan, dance, kiss, caress, and of course lick, and they don't turn half as good as yours!! Maybe I'll just treat them like a man and see what happens!!!
actually what she gave me are for this zone 5a or 5b. I am sure with your mild winters your zone is different and you will have even more choice. Another ground cover is Tri-color Chameleon plant.(red, yellow and med. green leaves) also Common Bugleweed (pink and grey-green leaves). Have fun.
Karen gave you lots of names, I wrote them down too, want to add more perennials and with my northern exposed yard, they sound perfect.

yes my book shows a pic as described, but I prefer the calla, if that is what it is. I know when I have travelled to Portugal they grow wild all over, many colours and are gorgeous. They seem to prefer a semi-shade area too, so where you have it is perfect. They almost don't look real.they are so perfect. I would love to be able to grow them but in wrong garden zone here. You have a beautiful place, like living in a green house, LOL. I bought some plants for the stone wall today, ( forum Friday) some I could not find but I bought a nice assortment. It will take a couple years before they really get showy.
I found goatsbead really easy and low maintenance. All it really needs is soil on the moist side. Mine is getting a little morning sun but the rest of the day shade. We have been in this house only over 1 year and I had some concerns about the north facing yard but things seems to work fine. Thanks for your kind remarks, as I'm not going anywhere over the long week-end, I'll just imagine being on a vacation (like you said) in my backyard.

I looked in my book and Zantedeschia (form of Arum Lily or Lily of the Nil) looks very similar. Like I said, I don't know anything about lilies but it definitely doesn't look like you describe Lily of the Nile, so I was wrong here.

that is great too! I have one on my list to plant one this year. Do you have any tips?
Your yard is just stunning!! I would feel like I was in a beautiful vacation spot everyday if I had a yard like that. Great job!
it is not "Lily of the Nile", they have a blue globe like flower made up of several small ones. I still think it is a type of calla lily.
I don't know about lilies and therefore am so thrilled about my "treasures". It is honestly stunning looking (the pic just doesn't showed it enough). Glad you like the garden pics.

You have lots to think about. I know, DH built our shed so it could be moved because we know our time here is unfortunately counted. Living in a downtown area where buildings are going up very fast, We are surrounded by highrises, condos and townhouses and sooner or later our land we fall to new development.
Your lily is wonderful. I don't have much experience with this type, but I got one last year called Green Goddess. It did poorly in the first location, so I moved it to another nearby bed. It's doing much better this year in it's new spot, which gets morning sun until about 2pm. Originally my intention was to get a classic white calla lily, but this one intrigued me because the flowers are a bit green.
I never had great success with the smaller flowered calla lily types. I tried a purpley one and a yellow one, both with smaller blooms than a regular calla lily, and neither ever thrived. They were also in morning sun-maybe I should have given them a spot with a bit more shade?
Thanks for sharing your pictures. It's always a joy to view your lovely garden.
We made a plan and we were supposed to start this week but my husband was off on holidays, and he started to trim trees, yard work, paint, he rebuilt all the stone walls in the front yard, they were getting a little wabbly, so that took 2 days+++ so the shed was started yet. Today he spent all day looking for a filtre for the pool. The week went by so fast. Now we are thinking of "maybe" building so we are not sure if we want to put more $$ on the house until we make up our minds. I keep you updated. Thanks for asking.
Thanks. How is the garden shed coming along?
You're garden looks fabulous! By here, the leaves just came out in the last day, I can't wait to see something growing!
I like your pictures.
Thanks. Yes, the green/white plants are hostas, they do well in that area. The ivy you see is actually the neighbours growing over our fence, (you can see it better on the pic I posted under Chico) it's very invasive but looks nice if you can keep it under control. Glad you like my garden, I'll post updated pics during the summer.
here is my goatsbeard which is growing like crazy, in front of it are the crocosmias, on the left astilbe, a rhododendron and wax pegonias.
Thanks. I'll look that up. Yes, I think everything is early here this year. I'll send an other pic I took this morning.
Just read the post you mentioned but I don't think mine are Calla Lillies
they look like calla lillies to me. There is a post about calla lillies in Forum Friday. Your plants are all up so much compared to here.
that is beautiful. I am so happy it bloomed for you this year! Is the green and white striped leaf plant beside it a hosta? Your whole garden is beautiful and I love the fence with the climbers on it too.
Here is a close up.
