A little rushed, but I need help

I need some ideas on what to to get as a gift to a person that is turning 40 this weekend. I met her through school, and her family has come over a couple of times to my house, but we have never been invited to her place, so I have no idea what her taste is like. Actually the hubbies get on better than us moms.
Her friend called us to invite us to a birthday dinner that is being held at the friends house.

I am going out today in search of a gift, for someone I have no clue what they like or dislike.
The usual picture frame, vase or punch bowl crossed my mind, but that is only in jokes, right?. :biglol:

Help please! I need quick easy ideas. I am going past Homesense/winners today too.

She is from England, and has just had her second baby.

Thx everyone ;)

For mom who has never time for herself, the Spa package/or something from spa (massgae is the best, give just 30 min massage if it's too expensive) would be truely the best gift. It will revive the body and soul. What could be better? At least I wish I would get this kind of gift from someone, even if I am not a mom with newborn baby.

bath products, on the luxury side, maybe some candles thrown in . . .

wow, some great ideas. I peeked into Homesense. They had gift baskets with soaps, body scrubs, lufers etc. I didn't get one, as I still need to think about it.
I shall be returning there on Friday anyway.

I vote for a gift certificate from Ikea. It never ceases to amaze me how many moms with wee babies are pushing strollers through the store. So, she either goes there and takes part in this already and would be thrilled to have an excuse to drop in there again, or she can go for the first time to discover a child-friendly shopping environment.

Another idea would be a coffee or tea gift basket. Since she's been to your house you likely know her preference. It would be fun to make up your own basket, if you have time.

stay at home mom with 2nd baby would probable love a gift basket from The Body Shop or similar. She deserves something for herself. Hubby can shop at M&M and pick up quick dinners. :)

If you are going to winners/homesense, check out their bathshop collections. I'm thinking here of relaxation, nice things for relaxing in the bath. Most people won't spend a lot of money on themselves in that respect and just having a baby, she may appreciate just being able to go relax a bit. Winners usually has some nice jewelry. Some simple hoops (if you can remember if her ears are pierced) or a braclet might work. You might also check out the books. If they have a house a gardening book or something of general interest might work too.

Anything from a Spa as that is usually something you wouldn't buy for yourself if you are a stay at home Mom. Otherwise what about a specialty food shop with some nice spices or spreads they will have some nice gift baskets.

Actually, that's not a bad idea, Lizz :) Along the same lines of the M&M gift card, how about the service where the grocery store shops for you and delivers the food right to your door?? That could be handy for a mom with 2 kids.

I was not really joking. I was thinking that with a new baby the convenience of M&M might help her out some.

LOL M&Ms are you joking... that is a horrible gift...

Another thought, would be a Gift Card for a massage, or a manicure and pedicure, if she has a new baby, something that is just for her might be nice.

I think a gift card for a store that carries a wide range of products would be good (The Bay, for exmaple). Also, I think you can get mall gift cards, which are good for all the stores in the mall. That give her lots of options to use the card to buy something that she likes :)

Or maybe a gift certificate for a massage or spa treatment. With a new baby, she would probably appreciate some time to relax and be pampered :)
