looking like Christmas

Just thought I'd share some snow (like most of you really need that). It's not that often Calgary gets a big dump (when it's appreciated although May seems to be a good time for them around here). It's very pretty around here today although the pictures don't do it justice.

So here's Eb surveying her domain and happy to be inside since she doesn't appreciate things that get her feet wet. As well a couple of my bushes. I wish the red berries weren't mostly covered because they are so pretty with the snow.

Any suggestions for a new contemporary furniture this Christmas?

It is turning cold here I went out this evening and when I came out of the meeting it had really dropped. DH and I just were out and brought in enough wood for the night and morning and it is getting cold. Suppose to drop to -18 tonight. Clear and no fresh snow but we have about 6 inches now which is a lot for this time of the year. We sat in the LR this morning and watched the deer on the Golf course they were so cute digging under the trees for grass.

Boy I hear you on the pretty but a pain. I don't envy you that at all and remember what it was like to be digging out all the time. I used to think it was a lot of fun when we lived in it, until my parents decided I was old enough to start helping with the shovelling... boy does that put a damper on a good snowfall.

DBD your pics are beautiful. I hope you have a better winter this year:)

Inglewood we don't usually have really bad (as in lots of snow and cold) winters and compared to the snow I have lived in in other places, Calgary is a breeze in that regard. Last year was pretty mild especially compared to what other places got. My problem is we can get snow until June and often we are only truly free of the threat of snow for maybe 3 mos of the year. It comes and goes and comes and goes but it just goes on sooo long. So while other places get the melt, have spring for a couple of months, and can think about planting, our spring rarely sticks and just when you think you are safe and the flowers are coming up, whap, a big dump of snow kills everything including the mood. That never changes around here which is what makes me nuts.

I actually don't mind snow in winter and Calgary is good in that regard because I have never seen a dump here that compares to what I saw regularly when I lived in Ont. I just wish it would stop by March and stay stopped until Nov. That, to me, would be perfect. My yipping and whining usually starts when it's spring in other places and they are well on their way with flowers and green grass and we sit here waiting to start planting and enjoying it all.

Well, we're in the middle of a big snowfall here today -- booooo!!!!! :hairpull:

We had a measly four snow-free months in all of 2008. That's absolutely pathetic

Yeah, you did well to come last week. leave it to Ab. A few days ago it was record breaking weather in the southern end (15 degrees even) and then the next day it's a weather warning for a heavy snowfall (I don't think it actually snowed north of Calgary) It's so unusual not to see some grass or sun here even in winter, but there is not sign of either today. I'm just trying to decide if I should dust off the boots and take Eb to the dog park since it's not cold. Maybe if there are some other dogs around she won't mind putting her paws in snow. We'll see.

Wow dbd, we only got a skiff of snow here in Red Deer, we can still see the grass on our front lawn, the wind just blows the very little snow that we have here around, even out in the farmers fields, I went out to Costco yesterday morning and there's hardly any snow on the fields, still pretty brown looking.I know the big storms are coming, I'm not looking forward to that at all, we were soo lucky last week when we went to Calgary, we had the perfect weather for travelling.

Yes winter is here I guess. I saw some pictures of Michigan and people were shoveling their roofs so I wondered if Ont. got the same sort of dump.

Calgary just isn't used to dumps like this when it isn't going to melt the next day. My neighbours were out 3 times yesterday shovelling and it struck me as kind of funny after living in N. Ont. Now there you did have to shovel 3 times a day or you'd never get out. With this 6" it seemed like overkill but I'm not complaining because they were good enough to do my walk for me so that was pretty nice.

Meanwhile we don't have a Chinook in sight and it's supposed to get colder by the end of the week so I wonder if we'll have a white Christmas this year.

We had a lot of snow this weekend. And today it was around -20 -- boooooo!!!!

We were driving home from a party on Saturday night while it was snowing. When I braked to stop at a red light, the tires just lost their grip completely. We just flew all over the place -- I have no idea how we managed to not hit anything (other cars, concrete medians, lamp posts....) Scared the CRAP out of me  Although in a twisted way, it was kind of exhilerating too!! Anyway, it takes one episode like that to remind you that winter driving is NOT the same as summer driving.

Very pretty, DBD!
I get the distinct feeling that Ebony wasn't as impressed with the pretty snow... she's definitely "surveying her domain" as you say, but I suspect she's also wishing all the white stuff would just go away so that she can run around without cold, wet feet!

Word on the street is - snow this Saturday here in the Lower Mainland, BC :(
